SUMMARY:World Blood Donor Day / Wereldbloeddonordag 2026
DESCRIPTION:World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is celebrated every year by people around the world on June 14\, it is celebrated on the birthday anniversary of Karl Landsteiner on June 14\, 1868\, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the ABO blood group system. \nWBDD was organised for the first time in 2005\, by a joint initiative of World Health Organisation\, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products\, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary\, life-saving gifts of blood. Transfusion of blood and blood products helps and save millions of lives every year. It can help patients who suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with higher quality of life\, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. It also has an essential\, life-saving role in maternal and perinatal care. Access to safe and sufficient blood and blood products can help reduce rates of death and disability due to severe bleeding during delivery and after childbirth. In many countries\, there is not an adequate supply of safe blood\, and blood services face the challenge of making sufficient blood available\, while also ensuring its quality and safety. An adequate supply can only be assured through regular donations by voluntary unpaid blood donors. The WHO’s goal is for all countries to obtain all their blood supplies from voluntary unpaid donors by 2020. In 2014\, 60 countries have their national blood supplies based on 99-100% voluntary unpaid blood donations\, with 73 countries still largely dependent on family and paid donors. \n2025 theme: Give blood\, give hope: together we save lives. The WHO honors hope\, the kind you give with every drop of blood. Because millions of patients around the world rely on blood transfusions every year\, hope flows through every donation. \nLinks:\nWorld Blood Donor Day \nWereld Bloeddonordag

SUMMARY:#AlbinismDay Albinism Awareness Day / Albinisme Dag 2026
DESCRIPTION:Albinism is a rare\, non-contagious\, genetically inherited difference present at birth\, congenital absence of melanin in an animal or plant resulting in white hair\, feathers\, scales and skin and reddish pink or blue eyes. \nIn almost all types of albinism\, both parents must carry the gene for it to be passed on\, even if they do not have albinism themselves. The condition is found in both sexes regardless of ethnicity and in all countries of the world. Albinism results in a lack of pigmentation (melanin) in the hair\, skin and eyes\, causing vulnerability to the sun and bright light. As a result\, almost all people with albinism are visually impaired and are prone to developing skin cancer. There is no cure for the absence of melanin that is central to albinism. While numbers vary\, it is estimated that in North America and Europe 1 in every 17\,000 to 20\,000 people have some form of albinism. The condition is much more prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa\, with estimates of 1 in 1\,400 people being affected in Tanzania  and prevalence as high as 1 in 1\,000 reported for select populations in Zimbabwe and for other specific ethnic groups in Southern Africa. \nThe lack of melanin means persons with albinism are highly vulnerable to developing skin cancer. In some countries\, a majority of persons with albinism die from skin cancer between 30 and 40 years of age. Skin cancer is highly preventable when persons with albinism enjoy their right to health. This includes access to regular health checks\, sunscreen\, sunglasses and sun-protective clothing. In a significant number of countries\, these life-saving means are unavailable or inaccessible to them. Consequently\, in the realm of development measures\, persons with albinism have been and are among those “left furthest behind.” Therefore\, they ought to be targeted for human rights interventions in the manner envisioned by the Sustainable Development Goals. \nDue to a lack of melanin in the skin and eyes\, persons with albinism often have permanent visual impairment. They also face discrimination due to their skin colour; as such\, they are often subject to multiple and intersecting discrimination on the grounds of both disability and colour. People with albinism face multiple forms of discrimination worldwide. Albinism is still profoundly misunderstood\, socially and medically. The physical appearance of persons with albinism is often the object of erroneous beliefs and myths influenced by superstition\, which foster their marginalization and social exclusion. This leads to various forms of stigma and discrimination. \nIn some communities\, erroneous beliefs and myths\, heavily influenced by superstition\, put the security and lives of persons with albinism at constant risk. These beliefs and myths are centuries old and are present in cultural attitudes and practices around the world. While it has been reported that persons with albinism globally face discrimination and stigma\, information on cases of physical attacks against persons with albinism is mainly available from countries in Africa. \nPersons with albinism face more severe forms of discrimination and violence in those regions\, where the majority of the general population are relatively dark-skinned. In other words\, a greater degree of contrast in pigmentation often gives rise to a greater degree of discrimination. That appears to be the case in some sub-Saharan African countries where albinism is shrouded in myth and dangerous and erroneous beliefs. The figures on violations against persons with albinism are telling. There have been hundreds of cases of attacks and killings of persons with albinism reported in 28 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa in the past decade. The attacks have several root causes including ignorance\, longstanding stigma\, poverty and most abhorrently\, harmful practices emanating from manifestation of beliefs in witchcraft. The alarming reality is that these horrendous practices continue today. \nThe manner in which discrimination faced by persons with albinism manifests itself\, and its severity\, vary from region to region. In the western world\, including North America\, Europe and Australia\, discrimination often consists of name-calling\, persistent teasing and bullying of children with albinism. Little information is available from other regions such as Asia\, South America and the Pacific etc. However\, some reports indicate that in China and other Asian countries\, children with albinism face abandonment and rejection by their families. \nLinks:\nAlbinism Awareness Day \nAttacks against people with albinism are hate crimes \nNot ghosts but human beings

SUMMARY:Robert Koch Colloquium 2026 "Navigating Public Health in Times of Global Uncertainties"
DESCRIPTION:The Robert Koch Colloquium (RKC) is an annual interdisciplinary lecture series. It focuses each year on one contemporary and innovative public health topic\, such as Burden of Disease (2019)\, Public Health Surveillance (2021)\, Climate Change and Public Health (2022)\, Social Inequities in Health (2023)\, Mobility and Public Health (2024) and Public Health Data (2025). \nEach year\, the Robert Koch Institute invites leading international experts to present and discuss their area of work at the Robert Koch Colloquium. This year’s colloquium topic was “Navigating Public Health in times of Global uncertainties”. Over two days\, a series of interactive lectures addressed topics related to the impact of conflicts on Public Health systems\, global sharing of health data in times of uncertainty\, the current shifts in health governance at local\, national and international level as well as the citizens’ trust in Public Health science. The lectures were  complemented by a panel discussion. \nThe Robert Koch Colloquium 2026 addressed an urgent challenge of today’s public health landscape: how to adapt to global uncertainties and political fragmentation. Armed conflicts\, political and economic instability\, climate-related pressures\, and fluctuating public trust increasingly shape the contexts in which public health systems operate\, challenging established modes-of-action and international cooperation. In response to these dynamics\, the RKC 2026 brought together leading international experts to reflect on how public health can respond and evolve under conditions of crisis and transformation. Over two days\, the programme examined public health action in times of crisis. We explored\n1) the health impacts of armed conflict on population health including mental health and non-communicable diseases.\n2) widening inequalities in times of global polycrisis.\n3) the need for a resilient global health architecture during geopolitical shifts in power and interests. The colloquium also shed light on advancing health data justice and the development of resilient cross-border data-sharing frameworks that can withstand political and financial pressures. Particular attention was paid to the current challenge of building and sustaining trust in evidence-based public health science in times of widespread misinformation. The colloquium concluded with a panel discussion titled “Rethinking Global Public Health: From Crisis Response to Long-term Sustainability”\, synthesizing key insights and outlining visions towards a more resilient and equitable public health future. By combining scientific perspectives with policy-oriented insights\, the RKC 2026 aimed to foster interdisciplinary dialogue across sectors and governance levels. \nLinks:\nRobert Koch Colloquium 2026 “Navigating Public Health in Times of Global Uncertainties”

SUMMARY:#WorldClubfootDay / Wereld Klompvoet Dag 2026
DESCRIPTION:Clubfoot\, or talipes equinovarus\, is a treatable birth defect where one or both feet are rotated inward and downward that affects approximately 150\,000-200\,000 children each year. \nThe affected foot and leg may be smaller in size compared to the other. Approximately 50% of cases of clubfoot affect both feet. Most of the time\, it is not associated with other problems. Without treatment\, the foot remains deformed\, and people walk on the sides of their feet. This may lead to pain and difficulty walking. The exact cause is usually not identified. Both genetic and environmental factors are believed to be involved. If one identical twin is affected\, there is a 33% chance the other one will be as well. The underlying mechanism involves disruption of the muscles or connective tissue of the lower leg\, leading to joint contracture. Other abnormalities are associated 20% of the time\, with the most common being distal arthrogryposis and myelomeningocele. The diagnosis may be made at birth by examination or before birth during an ultrasound exam. \nInitial treatment is most often with the Ponseti method. This involves moving the foot into an improved position followed by casting\, which is repeated at weekly intervals. Once the inward bending is improved\, the Achilles tendon is often cut\, and braces are worn until the age of four. Initially\, the brace is worn nearly continuously and then just at night. In about 20% of cases\, further surgery is required. Treatment can be carried out by a range of healthcare providers and can generally be achieved in the developing world with few resources. Clubfoot occurs in 1 to 4 of every 1\,000 live births\, making it one of the most common birth defects affecting the legs. About 80% of cases occur in developing countries where there is limited access to care. Clubfoot is more common in firstborn children and males. It is more common among Māori people\, and less common among Chinese people. \nLinks:\nWorld Clubfoot Day

SUMMARY:#TobaccoExposed World #NoTobacco Day / Wereld Anti-Tabaksdag / Wereld Niet Roken Dag 2026
DESCRIPTION:World No Tobacco Day (WNTD)  is observed around the world every year on 31 May. \nThe yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco\, the business practices of tobacco companies\, what the World Health Organization (WHO) is doing to fight against the use of tobacco\, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations. The Member States of the WHO created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes. The day is further intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects\, which currently lead to more than 8 million deaths each year worldwide\, including 1.2 million as the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke. The day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance around the globe from governments\, public health organizations\, smokers\, growers\, and the tobacco industry. \nLinks:\nWorld No Tobacco Day \nWHO raises alarm on tobacco industry environmental impact \nTabakNee \nIt’s Time to Ban Cigarette Filters \nVerenigd Koninkrijk stap dichter bij tabaksverbod \nEuropean Week Against Cancer \nOnderzoek: stoppen met roken loont meer dan gedacht

SUMMARY:#MSConnections World MS Day / Wereld MS-dag 2026
DESCRIPTION:World multiple sclerosis (MS) Day is marked on 30 May\, it brings the global MS community together to share stories\, raise awareness and campaign with everyone affected by MS. \nWorld MS Day activities take place throughout the month of May and in early June. The campaign offers flexibility for individuals and organisations to achieve a variety of goals. MS is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). In 2024\, there are 2.9 million people living with MS worldwide. MS is an inflammatory demyelinating condition. It is caused by damage to myelin – a fatty material that insulates nerves. In MS\, the loss of myelin affects the way nerves conduct electrical impulses to and from the brain. Symptoms can include blurred vision\, weak limbs\, tingling sensations\, unsteadiness\, memory problems\, and fatigue. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40. MS is two to three times more common in women than in men. There is no drug that can cure MS\, but treatments are available which can modify the course of the disease. \nThe theme for World MS Day 2024-2025 is diagnosis. The name of the campaign is My MS Diagnosis and the tagline: navigating MS together. The My MS Diagnosis campaign advocates for early and accurate diagnosis for everyone living with MS. It highlights the global barriers to diagnosing MS\, raising awareness by sharing real stories and data. We are calling for better MS training for healthcare professionals\, new research\, and clinical advancements in MS diagnosis. Together we are building informed\, caring communities and systems that support people diagnosed with MS. \nLinks:\nWorld MS Day

SUMMARY:#EmergencyMedicineDay 2026
DESCRIPTION:The aim of Emergency Medicine day is to unite the world population and decision makers to think and talk about emergency medicine and emergency medical care. \nIt is important to build awareness about the need for well developed\, well prepared and well organised emergency medical systems everywhere in the world to increase survival and reduce disability after any kind of urgent or emergent medical situation. Where the specialty in emergency medicine is not yet developed\, where emergency medical systems are not well structured\, where competences are not standardized and certified\, where resources for emergency medicine are insufficient\, there should be a strong voice to ask and claim for a change\, for a better life. The mission is to explain to the people that emergency medical care is better performed with competent professionals; doctors\, specialists in emergency medicine\, nurses trained in emergency and acute care\, paramedics\, technicians\, support personnel competent and working in organized structures and systems dedicated to emergency medical care. To show to people and governments that this organization makes a difference in terms of morbidity\, mortality\, and cost-effectiveness. The 27th of May is the day when Emergency Medicine in Europe took its beginning. In London a group of visionary people signed the founding act of the European Society for Emergency Medicine. The aim was to build up a system model to grant to every citizen in Europe a professional\, competent and above all timely response to any life\, organ or limb threatening acute condition. The 2025 theme\, “Proud to Provide Your Emergency Care\,” celebrates the dedication of emergency care providers who deliver critical\, life-saving services every day—often under immense pressure. \nLinks:\nEmergency Medicine day

SUMMARY:European Week Against Cancer 2026
DESCRIPTION:The European Week Against Cancer (EWAC)\, an initiative from the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL) that takes place between 25 and 31 May each year to raise awareness about the importance of cancer prevention and care. \nCancer continues to affect thousands of people across Europe every year. Cancer claimed the lives of an estimated 1.3 million people in 2022 alone\, making it the leading cause of death for people aged under 65 in Europe. Together\, we can reverse this trend. Where you live should not determine your risk of cancer or your chances of surviving it. Cancer affects everyone\, but the differences in how it is prevented\, diagnosed\, and treated remain deeply unequal across Europe. Theme European Week Against Cancer 2026 is ‘Together against cancer inequalities’\, a call to end inequalities in access to prevention\, early detection\, treatment and care for all. Cancer leagues and partners across Europe are coming together to promote the European Week Against Cancer both online and in communities across the continent\, and we invite you to be a part of it. Each day of the week spotlights a key theme\, covering the full cancer care journey\, from prevention and early prevention to treatment\, patient support\, survivorship\, and cancer research. Together\, these themes reflect the many ways we can reduce the burden of cancer. \n \nLinks:\nEuropean Week Against Cancer 2026

SUMMARY:#PsychoseAwarenessDay / #WorldSchizophreniaDay 2026
\nLinks:\n7 mythen over psychose \nWorld Schizophrenia Day

SUMMARY:World AUTOimmune & AUTOinflammatory Arthritis Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:World AUTOimmune & AUTOinflammatory Arthritis Day is organized on May 20th annually. \nLack of awareness leads to relationship conflicts\, delayed diagnosis\, compromised quality of life\, and elevated healthcare costs. Education about these diseases\, including the fact they are full body diseases affecting many parts (joints\, tissues\, organs) is necessary to improve the lives of the 450 million worldwide affected. World AUTOimmune & AUTOinflammatory Arthritis Day was established by our nonprofit in 2012 to raise awareness about the AUTOimmune and AUTOinflammatory diseases that include inflammatory-driven arthritis (AiArthritis) as a major clinical component. This event historically unites thousands of people in 60 + countries worldwide to DRIVE global awareness and education about our diseases. It’s a day for ALL organizations\, we just manage it through the official World AiArthritis Day social media pages.  To catch the attention of those who do not understand our diseases\, including the type of arthritis associated with them\, we use AUTO-themed awareness and education materials. \nLinks:\nWorld AUTOimmune & AUTOinflammatory Arthritis Day

SUMMARY:Wereld IBD dag / World IBD Day 2026
SUMMARY:#WorldFamilyDoctorDay Wereldhuisartsendag 2026
DESCRIPTION:World Family Doctor Day (FDD) – 19th May – was first declared by WONCA in 2010 and it has become a day to highlight the role and contribution of family doctors and primary care teams in healthcare systems around the world. \nThis celebration is the perfect opportunity to acknowledge the central role of Family Doctors in the delivery of personal\, comprehensive and continuing health care for all patients. It’s also a chance to celebrate the progress being made in family medicine and the special contributions of primary care teams globally. In 2026\, FFD celebrates family doctors navigating a world reshaped by digital technology\, bringing their values of compassion\, continuity and person-centred care into the digital age. Artificial intelligence can detect patterns\, generate documentation and optimise workflows. But it cannot recognise hesitation. It cannot interpret silence. It cannot perceive fear behind polite reassurance. In many of our cultures\, meaning is conveyed indirectly\, through tone\, through pauses\, and through relationship built over years. No algorithm captures that. \nLinks:\nWorld Family Doctor Day

SUMMARY:#WHA79 79th World Health Assembly
DESCRIPTION:The World Health Assembly (WHA) is the forum through which the World Health Organization (WHO) is governed by its 193 member states\, it is the world’s highest health policy setting body and is composed of health ministers from member states. \nThe members of the WHA generally meet every year in May in Geneva\, Switzerland\, at the Palace of Nations\, the location of WHO Headquarters. The main tasks of the WHA are to decide major policy questions\, as well as to approve the WHO work programme and budget and elect its Director-General (every fifth year) and annually to elect ten members to renew part of its executive board. Its main functions are to determine the policies of the Organization\, supervise financial policies\, and review and approve the proposed programme budget. The Seventy-ninth World Health Assembly (WHA79) takes place in Geneva\, Switzerland from 18 to 23 May 2026\, bringing together delegations from WHO Member States to set global health policy and advance the Organization’s strategic priorities. It will build upon the momentum of the last year’s 78th World Health Assembly\, which adopted the Global Action Plan on Climate Change and Health\, an updated road map for an enhanced global response to the adverse health effects of air pollution\, and the elevation of climate change as the first strategic objective of WHO’s Fourteenth General Programme of Work (GPW14\, 2025–2028). Looking forward to COP31\, co-hosted by Türkiye and Australia\, this Assembly offers an opportunity for the global climate and health community to convene and sustain the political momentum secured at WHA78. \nLinks:\n79th World Health Assembly \nKlimaatverandering bedreigt ook de volksgezondheid\, waarschuwen experts

SUMMARY:#WorldHypertensionDay / Wereld Hypertensie Dag 2026
DESCRIPTION:World Hypertension Day is observed every May 17th in order to raise awareness and promote hypertension prevention\, detection and control. \nHigh blood pressure is the main risk factor to develop cardiovascular disease. More than one billion people around the world live with hypertension (high blood pressure)\, which is a major cause of cardiovascular disease and premature death worldwide. The burden of hypertension is felt disproportionately in low- and middle-income countries\, where two thirds of cases are found\, largely due to increased risk factors in those populations in recent decades. What’s more\, around half of people living with hypertension are unaware of their condition\, putting them at risk of avoidable medical complications and death.\n\nLinks:\nWorld Hypertension Day 2026 \nWorld #SaltAwarenessWeek / Wereld Zout Bewustwordingsweek 2026\n

SUMMARY:Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak in 2026
DESCRIPTION:By Chaotic Enby – Own work based on: Democratic Republic of the Congo adm location map.svg\, DR Congo Provinces Blank.svg and Map of the Ituri Province Ebola outbreak.png\, CC BY-SA 4.0\nIn May 2026\, an epidemic of Ebola was reported in the Ituri Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)\, it is the 17th Ebola outbreak in DRC and only five months after the end of the previous outbreak. \nImported cases from Ituri have been reported in North Kivu Province\, as well as in Uganda‘s capital city of Kampala. A case in South Kivu was also reported to have been imported from Tshopo province on 21 May. The epidemic is caused by the Bundibugyo ebolavirus\, which may complicate response efforts as existing Ebola treatments were created for a different strain\, the Zaire ebolavirus. The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 16 May 2026. There have been 101 confirmed deaths in D.R. Congo and two deaths in Uganda\, as of 7 June and 8 June 2026 respectively. Poor healthcare infrastructure in the region and an ongoing armed conflict hinder detection\, treatment and prevention of the disease; it is considered likely that the true scale of the outbreak could considerably exceed the confirmed numbers. \nLinks:\nEpidemic of Ebola Disease caused by Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda determined a public health emergency of international concern \nEbola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda \nKenyan court blocks Trump admin from dumping Ebola-exposed Americans there \nCurrent information about Ebola – RIVM \nEbola disease – WHO \nEbola outbreak – DRC 2026 \n‘Als het zo doorgaat\, wordt dit de grootste ebola-uitbraak ooit’

SUMMARY:Dag van de Coeliakie / Glutenintolerantie / Coeliac Disease Awareness Day 2026
\nLinks:\nCoeliac Disease Awareness Day

SUMMARY:Dag van de Verpleging / Dag van de Zorg / Dag van het Bewustzijn & ME / Dag voor Chronische Immunologische en Neurologische Aandoeningen / Florence Nightingale – geboortedag (1820) 2026

SUMMARY:World #SaltAwarenessWeek / Wereld Zout Bewustwordingsweek 2026
DESCRIPTION:Salt Awareness Week takes place in the third week of May every year. \nHeart attacks and strokes are the biggest causes of death and disability globally\, responsible for 17.9 million deaths annually. The strain this is having – not only on the individual and their families – but on healthcare systems cannot be ignored. Most cases are entirely preventable\, and so it’s vital we all take measures to improve our health and prevent these events from happening in the first place. It’s a little-known fact that eating less salt is one of the quickest and most effective ways of improving our health\, with just 1 less ‘pinch’ a day preventing over 4\,000 heart attacks and strokes every year in the UK alone. But how can we cut back on our salt\, when everything we buy is full of it? From sliced bread to biscuits\, street food to ‘healthy’ salads\, everything has added salt. In fact\, in many countries\, up to 80% of the salt we eat is already in the foods we buy\, and it’s impossible to take it out once it’s been added in. \nLinks:\nWorld Salt Awareness Week \n#WorldHypertensionDay / Wereld Hypertensie Dag 2026 \nZoutmaxdag 2025 \nWaarom we ongemerkt te veel zout eten

SUMMARY:#MakeLupusVisible Wereld Lupus Dag / #WorldLupusDay 2026
DESCRIPTION:World Lupus Day wordt georganiseerd door de World Lupus Federation en heeft als doel de levenskwaliteit te verbeteren voor lijders aan de mogelijk fatale auto-immuunziekte lupus en vraagt voor de patiënten meer aandacht en begrip voer de impact van deze ziekte.\n\nMaar wil ook zorgen dat onderwijs\, de gezondheidszorg en andere instanties toegankelijk zijn en blijven.

SUMMARY:#WishboneDay / Day of OI 2026
DESCRIPTION:Wishbone Day / Day of OI is celebrated on May 6th each year. It is an international awareness day for osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) also known as brittle bone disease. \nWishbone Day was initiated by volunteers in Australia in 2010 and has grown to be the biggest international OI-event with contributions from more than 90 countries so far. Wishbone Day is the voice of people with OI\, talking about OI and the things that matter most to them\, in their own way. Wishbone Day draws awareness to the contributions of people with OI as well as the challenges of living with OI. SUMMARY:World #HandHygiene Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:World Hand Hygiene Day campaign objectives: To recognize that people of all levels should work together to influence the culture/climate through clean hands knowledge and behaviour\, to meet the common goal of safety and quality in the health care organization. \nHand hygiene\, hand washing or handwashing is the act of cleaning one’s hands with soap or handwash and water to remove viruses/bacteria/microorganisms\, dirt\, grease\, or other harmful and unwanted substances stuck to the hands. Drying of the washed hands is part of the process as wet and moist hands are more easily recontaminated. If soap and water are unavailable\, hand sanitizer that is at least 60% (v/v) alcohol in water can be used instead\, unless hands are visibly excessively dirty or greasy. Hand hygiene is central to preventing the spread of infectious diseases in home and everyday life settings. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends washing hands for at least 20 seconds before and after certain activities. These include the five critical times during the day where washing hands with soap is important to reduce fecal-oral transmission of disease: after using the toilet (for urination\, defecation\, menstrual hygiene)\, after cleaning a child’s bottom (changing nappies)\, before feeding a child\, before eating and before/after preparing food or handling raw meat\, fish\, or poultry. When both hand washing and using hand sanitizer are not available\, hands can be cleaned with uncontaminated ash and clean water\, although the benefits and harms are uncertain for reducing the spread of viral or bacterial infections. However\, frequent hand washing can lead to skin damage due to drying of the skin. Moisturizing lotion is often recommended to keep the hands from drying out; dry skin can lead to skin damage which can increase the risk for the transmission of infection. \nLinks:\nWorld Hand Hygiene Day

SUMMARY:#LongLifeforAll World Immunization Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nWorld Immunization Week is a global public health campaign to raise awareness and increase rates of immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases around the world\, it takes place each year during the last week of April (24th – 30th). \nImmunization can protect against 25 different infectious agents or diseases\, from infancy to old age\, including diphtheria\, measles\, pertussis\, polio\, tetanus and COVID-19. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates active immunization currently averts 2 to 3 million deaths every year. However\, 22.6 million infants worldwide are still missing out on basic vaccines\, mostly in developing countries. Inadequate immunization coverage rates often result from limited resources\, competing health priorities\, poor management of health systems and inadequate surveillance. The goal of World Immunization Week is to raise public awareness of how immunization saves lives\, and support people everywhere to get the vaccinations needed against deadly diseases for themselves and their children. World Immunization Week sprung out of the efforts taking place across different countries and regions for a week-long immunization awareness commemoration. World Immunization Week is one of eleven official campaigns marked by the WHO\, along with World Health Day\, World Blood Donor Day\, World No Tobacco Day\, World Tuberculosis Day\, World Malaria Day\, World Patient Safety Day\, World Hepatitis Day\, World Antimicrobial Awareness Week\, World Chagas Disease Day and World AIDS Day. \nLinks:\nWorld Immunization Week 2026
