DESCRIPTION:The European Week Against Cancer (EWAC)\, an initiative from the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL) that takes place between 25 and 31 May each year to raise awareness about the importance of cancer prevention and care. \nCancer continues to affect thousands of people across Europe every year. Cancer claimed the lives of an estimated 1.3 million people in 2022 alone\, making it the leading cause of death for people aged under 65 in Europe. Together\, we can reverse this trend. Where you live should not determine your risk of cancer or your chances of surviving it. Cancer affects everyone\, but the differences in how it is prevented\, diagnosed\, and treated remain deeply unequal across Europe. Theme European Week Against Cancer 2026 is ‘Together against cancer inequalities’\, a call to end inequalities in access to prevention\, early detection\, treatment and care for all. Cancer leagues and partners across Europe are coming together to promote the European Week Against Cancer both online and in communities across the continent\, and we invite you to be a part of it. Each day of the week spotlights a key theme\, covering the full cancer care journey\, from prevention and early prevention to treatment\, patient support\, survivorship\, and cancer research. DESCRIPTION:World No Tobacco Day (WNTD)  is observed around the world every year on 31 May. \nThe yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco\, the business practices of tobacco companies\, what the World Health Organization (WHO) is doing to fight against the use of tobacco\, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations. The Member States of the WHO created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes. The day is further intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects\, which currently lead to more than 8 million deaths each year worldwide\, including 1.2 million as the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke. DESCRIPTION:Alpe d’HuZes is een sportief evenement waarbij deelnemers\, alleen of in een team\, geld bijeen brengen waarmee zij een bijdrage leveren aan de strijd tegen kanker. \nOnder het motto ‘opgeven is geen optie’ beklimmen zij per fiets\, rennend of wandelend op één dag zoveel mogelijk de Alpe d’Huez. Alpe d’HuZes zet de opgehaalde sponsorgelden volledig in op het bevorderen en ondersteunen van (wetenschappelijk) onderzoek naar kanker in alle mogelijke vormen\, zodat er in de toekomst minder mensen doodgaan aan kanker. Tijdens Alpe d’HuZes 2026 flonkeren duizenden lichtjes in de 21 bochten van de berg. Elke kaars brandt voor een dierbare die is geraakt door kanker. Wil jij langs de route ook een kaars branden voor iemand die jou dierbaar is? Koop dan de speciale kaarsen van Bolsius. Ze kosten € 6 per stuk\, inclusief een etiket voor een herinnering of wens. DESCRIPTION:World Kidney Cancer Day is celebrated around the world every year on the third Thursday of June by patients\, carers\, healthcare professionals and local organisations. \nSince it was established in 2017\, it is a day dedicated to raising awareness of the local and global impact of kidney cancer\, educating people about the disease\, and making a difference in the lives of people affected by kidney cancer. World Kidney Cancer Day (WKCD) 2026 will be on 18 June\, marking the 10th year of raising awareness for kidney cancer worldwide. The 2026 theme is ‘Kidney Cancer and Emotional Wellbeing‘. Results from findings of the 2025 Global Patient Survey on Kidney Cancer show that 85% of kidney cancer patients experience emotional challenges\, yet many never raise these issues with their care team.
