Toch is het heel erg belangrijk om de uitslag van het weefselonderzoek af te wachten voordat er begonnen wordt met de behandeling. Wachten op de uitslag zorgt ervoor dat de patiënt\, samen met de arts\, de juiste behandeling kan kiezen voor de specifieke vorm van longkanker. Hoofd- en halskanker is relatief zeldzaam. In Nederland krijgen jaarlijks ongeveer 3.000 mensen de diagnose dat ze kanker in het hoofd-halsgebied hebben. Staat gelijk aan ongeveer 5% van het totale aantal mensen die jaarlijks de diagnose kanker krijgen. \nIn België zie je een soort gelijke cijfers\, ook daar gaat het om 5% van alle nieuwe gevallen van kanker. Bij elke ziekte geeft het tijdig herkennen van de klachten grotere overlevingskansen\, dat is bij hoofd-halskanker niet anders. Hoe eerder je naar de huisarts gaat\, hoe sneller je een doorverwijzing krijgt naar een hoofd-hals oncologisch centrum. DESCRIPTION:How Merck keeps the price of its blockbuster cancer drug sky-high\, shutting out patients and straining health care systems around the world. \nA yearlong investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has uncovered how Merck & Co. has kept the price of its blockbuster cancer drug Keytruda extraordinarily high while deterring competition. The Cancer Calculus\, an investigation by ICIJ and 47 media partners in 37 countries\, also sheds new light on the strategies that have allowed Merck to widen Keytruda’s use — even in cases where its benefits are more limited and lower dosages may be just as effective. A game changer in cancer treatment\, Keytruda\, known generically as pembrolizumab\, weaponizes a patient’s immune system against cancer cells. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it in 2014 to treat advanced melanoma\, the most aggressive form of skin cancer. The FDA has since approved it for 19 types of tumors. ICIJ’s investigation found that Merck’s list prices\, or the initial pre-discount prices\, vary wildly across countries\, ranging from about $850 for a single 100 milligram vial in Indonesia to $6\,015 for the same vial in the U.S. Usually administered via intravenous infusion in 200 mg doses every three weeks or 400 mg doses every six weeks\, treatment can last up to two years — amounting to a staggering $416\,000 according to the drug’s list price in the U.S. — and sometimes longer\, though insurance companies often stop covering the drug after the initial two years. With the cost of prescription drugs continually soaring\, President Donald Trump convened top executives from major drug companies at the White House this past December and promised to lower U.S. drug prices. Among the executives was Robert M. Davis\, head of Merck. All the companies pledged price cuts\, but Merck made no such commitment with Keytruda\, which generated $31.7 billion in 2025 — nearly half the company’s revenue. DESCRIPTION:Click image to enlarge\nUnderstanding the potential health implications of living near nuclear power plants is important given the renewed interest in nuclear energy as a low-carbon power source. \nThe study ‘National analysis of cancer mortality and proximity to nuclear power plants in the United States‘ shows that United States (U.S.) counties located closer to operational nuclear power plants have higher cancer mortality rates than those farther away. Using nationwide mortality data from 2000-2018\, the researchers assess long-term spatial patterns of cancer mortality in relation to proximity to nuclear facilities while accounting for socioeconomic\, demographic\, behavioral\, environmental\, and healthcare factors. Cancer mortality is higher across multiple age groups in both males and females\, with the strongest associations among older adults\, males aged 65–74 and females aged 55–64. Zijn of haar naam wordt met de hand geschreven op jouw lampion en toegevoegd aan het Grootste Lichtpunt tegen Kanker\, dat wordt ontstoken op vrijdagavond 20 februari tijdens een pakkende liveshow in De Schorre in Boom. Kanker heeft een grote impact op het leven van mensen. En op dat van hun naasten. The COP may establish such subsidiary bodies as are necessary to achieve the objective of the Convention\, such as the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body on a Protocol on Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products. The COP also may establish working groups or expert groups with the mandate to elaborate guidelines and recommendations for the implementation of different treaty provisions. The Meeting of the Parties (MOP) is the governing body of the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products. The work of the MOP is governed by its Rules of Procedure and keeps under regular review the implementation of the Protocol and takes the decisions necessary to promote its effective implementation. The MOP may establish working groups or expert groups with the mandate to elaborate guidelines and recommendations for the implementation of different protocol provisions. To this end\, the first session of the MOP established a working group on the tracking and tracing system following article 8\, and a second one on assistance and cooperation following articles 12\, 21\, 23\, 24\, 28 and 29. Vaak wordt alvleesklierkanker pas ontdekt wanneer er al uitzaaiingen zijn. Als je de diagnose alvleesklierkanker krijgt is dat min of meer een doodvonnis. De overlevingskans is klein bij deze vorm van kanker. Dat klinkt misschien als een korte periode\, maar juist die 28 dagen maken het verschil. Wie 28 dagen niet rookt\, heeft vijf keer meer kans om blijvend te stoppen. De kracht van Stoptober zit in het collectieve. Iedereen stopt op hetzelfde moment\, krijgt dezelfde steun\, en maakt deel uit van iets groters. Dat gevoel van ‘samen’ zorgt voor herkenning\, motivatie en doorzettingsvermogen. Stoppen doe je niet alleen\, en dat maakt het makkelijker vol te houden. Onderzoek laat zien dat wie vier weken niet rookt\, de psychologische drempel over is. In 28 dagen bouw je nieuwe gewoontes op\, krijg je inzicht in je eigen gedrag en merk je de eerste fysieke voordelen van stoppen. Het is haalbaar\, overzichtelijk en geeft houvast. Stoptober bundelt die 28 dagen met een app\, ondersteuning\, communicatie en een duidelijke start: 1 oktober. Zo ontstaat er niet alleen een persoonlijk doel\, maar ook een beweging. Stoptober is er voor iedereen die wil stoppen met roken. Maar ook voor iedereen die wil helpen. DESCRIPTION:Head and neck cancer is a group of cancers that starts in the mouth\, nose\, throat\, larynx\, sinuses\, or salivary glands. \nSymptoms for head and neck cancer may include a lump or sore that does not heal\, a sore throat that does not go away\, trouble swallowing\, or a change in the voice; there may also be unusual bleeding\, facial swelling\, or trouble breathing. About 75% of head and neck cancer is caused by the use of alcohol or tobacco. Other risk factors include betel quid\, certain types of human papillomavirus\, radiation exposure\, certain workplace exposures\, and Epstein-Barr virus. Head and neck cancers are most commonly of the squamous cell carcinoma type. The diagnosis is confirmed by tissue biopsy. The degree of spread may be determined by medical imaging and blood tests. Not using tobacco or alcohol can reduce the risk for head and neck cancer. While screening in the general population does not appear to be useful\, screening high risk groups by examination of the throat might be useful. \nHead and neck cancer often is curable if it is diagnosed early; however\, outcomes are typically poor if it is diagnosed late. Treatment may include a combination of surgery\, radiation therapy\, chemotherapy\, and targeted therapy. Following treatment of one head and neck cancer\, people are at higher risk of having a second cancer. In 2015\, head and neck cancers globally affected more than 5.5 million people (2.4 million mouth\, 1.7 million throat\, and 1.4 million larynx cancer)\, and it has caused over 379\,000 deaths (146\,000 mouth\, 127\,400 throat\, 105\,900 larynx cancer). Together\, they are the seventh most-frequent cancer and the ninth most-frequent cause of death from cancer. In the United States\, about 1% of people are affected at some point in their life\, and males are affected twice as often as females. The usual age at diagnosis is between 55 and 65 years old. DESCRIPTION:Vanaf zondag 31 augustus tot en met 6 september 2025 gaan tienduizenden collectanten langs de deuren om geld in te zamelen voor KWF Kankerbestrijding. \n1 op de 2 Nederlanders krijgt ooit de diagnose kanker. De ziekte raakt ons allemaal. De opbrengst van de collecte wordt door KWF besteed aan baanbrekend kankeronderzoek en betere zorg en ondersteuning voor (ex)kankerpatiënten. De collecteweek is onderdeel van de campagne ‘Iedereen aan tegen kanker’. Tegenwoordig is de 5-jaarsoverlevingskans al 70% terwijl dat bij de oprichting van KWF in 1949 nog maar 25% was. Ook al is de overlevingskans verbeterd\, toch is er nog heel veel werk te doen. Steeds meer mensen krijgen kanker en bijna iedereen wordt er direct of indirect mee geconfronteerd. Of je het nu zelf hebt\, of iemand om wie je geeft\, kanker ontwricht je leven. Ook is de overlevingskans voor sommige kankersoorten nog steeds klein. Meer onderzoek is hard nodig om ook daar verschil te maken. De collecte is onderdeel van de landelijke campagne ‘Iedereen aan tegen kanker’. Met deze campagne wil KWF Kankerbestrijding Nederland massaal in beweging brengen om geld te doneren voor (meer) wetenschappelijk onderzoek. De campagne is door het hele land te zien en loopt tot en met 6 september. Daarnaast zet ook NPO Radio 2 zich opnieuw in voor KWF. De programmering van NPO Radio 2 staat de hele week in het teken van het vervullen van wensen van luisteraars die geraakt zijn door de ziekte. Geld doneren tijdens de collecteweek is eenvoudig. De collectanten hebben een collectebord met een QR-code die gescand kan worden met de mobiele telefoon. SUMMARY:Wereld Longkankerdag / World Lung Cancer Day 2025
DESCRIPTION:Op Wereld Longkankerdag wordt over de hele wereld stilgestaan bij alle mensen die longkanker hebben (gehad) én hun familie en naasten. \nLongkanker heb je namelijk niet alleen. Op Longkankerdag wordt extra aandacht gevraagd voor weefselonderzoek bij longkanker. Hiermee kan de specifieke vorm van longkanker worden bepaald. Mensen willen natuurlijk graag meteen na de diagnose longkanker starten met een behandeling. Toch is het heel erg belangrijk om de uitslag van het weefselonderzoek af te wachten voordat er begonnen wordt met de behandeling. Wachten op de uitslag zorgt ervoor dat de patiënt\, samen met de arts\, de juiste behandeling kan kiezen voor de specifieke vorm van longkanker.
