DESCRIPTION:UNAIDS launched its 2025 Global AIDS Update\, “AIDS\, Crisis and the Power to Transform”\, which shows that a historic funding crisis is threatening to unravel decades of progress unless countries can make radical shifts to HIV programming and funding. \nThe report highlights the impact that the sudden\, large-scale funding cuts from international donors are having on countries most affected by HIV. Yet it also showcases some inspiring examples of resilience\, with countries and communities stepping up in the face of adversity to protect the gains made and drive the HIV response forward. Some 25 of the 60 low and middle-income countries included in the report have indicated increases in domestic budgets for their HIV responses in 2026. The estimated collective rise among the 25 countries amounts to 8% over current levels\, translating to approximately USD 180 million in additional domestic resources. The Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment is critical to keep the world on track toward ending these deadly diseases. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS\, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund) released its annual Results Report\, revealing an extraordinary milestone: 70 million lives saved since the Global Fund’s inception in 2002. In less than a quarter century\, the Global Fund partnership – driven by country leadership\, affected communities and front-line health workers – has slashed the combined death rate from AIDS\, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria by 63% and cut the combined incidence rate by 42%. The report demonstrates the high return on investment of the Global Fund partnership\, and highlights the continued progress achieved in the fight against the three diseases\, with a record number of people on antiretroviral therapy for HIV\, a record number of people with TB receiving treatment\, and the continued scale-up of malaria prevention efforts. \nLinks:\nGlobal Fund Results Report 2025

DESCRIPTION:Wereldaidsdag is een jaarlijks terugkerend wereldwijd evenement op 1 december\, dat gewijd is aan de bewustwording omtrent aids. \nWereldaidsdag werd in augustus 1987 bedacht door James W. Bunn en Thomas Netter\, beide werkzaam als voorlichter bij de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie in Genève\, Zwitserland. Bunn en Netter legden hun idee voor aan Dr. Jonathan Mann\, directeur van het Global Programme on AIDS (nu bekend als UNAIDS van de Verenigde Naties). Het concept werd goedgekeurd en op 1 december 1988 vond de eerste Wereldaidsdag plaats. Het doel van Wereldaidsdag is om wereldwijd aandacht te vragen voor de aidsproblematiek en op te roepen tot solidariteit met mensen met hiv en aids. Wereldwijd vinden er vele initiatieven plaats zoals evenementen\, congressen en acties. In Nederland organiseert de non-profitorganisatie Aidsfonds (voorheen Aids Fonds en STOP AIDS NOW!) Wereldaidsdag met onder andere een congres en een campagne. In België vraagt Sensoa aandacht voor de aidsbestrijding. Op Wereldaidsdag wordt opgeroepen het rode lintje op te spelden\, het symbool voor solidariteit met mensen met hiv. Wereldaidsdag heeft elk jaar een thema. Dat verwijst naar het streefdoel van nul nieuwe besmettingen met hiv\, nul doden aan de gevolgen van aids en nul gevallen van discriminatie van mensen met hiv en aids.
