SUMMARY:Advies COVID-19-vaccinatie in 2026 en 2027 - publicatie
DESCRIPTION:Sinds 2023 wordt er jaarlijks gevaccineerd tegen COVID-19 om kwetsbare groepen te beschermen tegen ernstige ziekte en sterfte als gevolg van besmetting met het SARS-CoV-2-virus. \nOp verzoek van het ministerie van VWS heeft de Gezondheidsraad beoordeeld of er aanpassingen nodig zijn aan de doelgroepen voor vaccinatie. De Gezondheidsraad adviseert in het ‘Advies COVID-19-vaccinatie in 2026 en 2027‘ om de leeftijd voor vaccinatie te verhogen van 60-plus naar 70-plus en\, net als afgelopen jaren\, vaccinatie aan te bieden aan mensen die vanwege onderliggende aandoeningen een verhoogd risico lopen op ernstige ziekte of sterfte door COVID-19. Het gaat om mensen van 50 tot en met 69 jaar uit medische risicogroepen en volwassenen en kinderen uit medische hoogrisicogroepen.  Ook wordt\, net als in voorgaande jaren\, geadviseerd om medewerkers in de gezondheidszorg die direct contact hebben met kwetsbare patiënten vaccinatie aan te bieden\, ter bescherming van de patiënten. Dit advies van de Gezondheidsraad aan de minister van VWS geldt voor de vaccinatieronde in het najaar van 2026 en voor de daaropvolgende vaccinatieronde in het najaar van 2027. \nLinks:\nCOVID-19-vaccinatie in 2026 en 2027 \nGezondheidsraad: leeftijdsgrens coronaprik mag van 60 naar 70-plus

Unlike earlier waves\, where one variant rapidly dominated\, BA.3.2 is spreading more gradually. But its ability to partially evade immune defenses means it could still contribute to seasonal upticks in infections\, especially in populations with prior exposure or vaccination. The defining feature of the Cicada variant lies in changes to its spike protein — the structure the virus uses to enter human cells. This protein is also the main target of immune defenses built through vaccination or previous infection. When mutations alter the spike protein\, antibodies may bind less effectively\, reducing their ability to neutralize the virus.
