DESCRIPTION:Action in memory of Alexei Navalny at the monument to victims of political repression in St. Petersburg on 16 February 2024\nOpposition to the government of President Vladimir Putin in Russia\, commonly referred to as the Russian opposition\, can be divided between the parliamentary opposition parties in the State Duma and the various non-systemic opposition organizations. \nWhile the former are largely viewed as being more or less loyal to the government and Putin\, the latter oppose the government and are mostly unrepresented in government bodies. According to Russian NGO Levada Center\, about 15% of the Russian population disapproved of Putin in the beginning of 2023. The “systemic opposition” is mainly composed of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF)\, the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR)\, A Just Russia – For Truth (SRZP)\, New People and other minor parties; these political groups\, while claiming to be in opposition\, generally support the government’s policies. Major political parties considered to be part of the non-systemic opposition include Yabloko and the People’s Freedom Party (PARNAS)\, along with the unregistered party Russia of the Future and Libertarian Party of Russia (LPR). Other notable opposition groups included the Russian Opposition Coordination Council (KSO) (2012–2013) and The Other Russia (2006–2011)\, as well as various non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Their supporters vary in political ideology\, ranging from liberals\, socialists\, and anarchists\, to Russian nationalists. They are mainly unified by their opposition to Putin and government corruption. DESCRIPTION:De parlementaire enquête naar de aanpak van de coronapandemie is een parlementaire enquête van de Tweede Kamer die onderzoek zal doen naar de Nederlandse aanpak van de coronapandemie. \nOp 4 november 2021 nam de Tweede Kamer unaniem een motie van VVD-Kamerlid Aukje de Vries aan die opriep tot deze parlementaire enquête. Vanwege onenigheid over het onderzoeksvoorstel besloot de Tweede Kamervoorzitter Vera Bergkamp om de enquête uit te stellen. Na de Tweede Kamerverkiezingen van 22 november 2023 is door de Kamer unaniem besloten de enquête te starten. Op 30 januari 2024 ging de commissie van start. DESCRIPTION:Sinds de verkiezingen van 22 november 2023 wordt de Nederlandse politiek gegijzeld door een minderheid met extreem gedachtegoed: mensen op de vlucht krijgen de schuld van falend overheidsbeleid; de onafhankelijkheid van rechters en de vrije pers staat ter discussie; wie afwijkt van de norm wordt verdacht gemaakt. \nDit mag niet normaal worden. We kijken met zijn allen naar de ondermijning van onze rechtsstaat en democratie. Door de petitie van DeGoedeZaak te tekenen\, spreek jij je uit tegen beleid\, plannen en woorden die onze democratie in gevaar brengen. Samen met jullie worden de stemmen versterkt van de mensen en bondgenoten die onze kernwaarden in stand houden en versterken we daarmee de rechtsstaat. DESCRIPTION:The 2024 United States presidential election will be the 60th quadrennial presidential election\, scheduled for Tuesday\, November 5\, 2024. \nVoters will elect a president and vice president for a term of four years. Incumbent President Joe Biden\, a member of the Democratic Party\, was running for re-election. On July 21\, 2024\, Biden announced that he would pull out of the presidential race\, allowing the Democratic Party to choose a new candidate. He endorsed incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination. Soon after\, Harris announced that she was running for the 2024 Democratic nomination. The party’s nominee will be officially chosen at the Democratic National Convention\, scheduled for August 19 to 22\, 2024. Donald Trump\, a member of the Republican Party\, is running for re-election to a second\, nonconsecutive term. If Trump wins\, he would become the second president to achieve this feat\, after Grover Cleveland. On July 13\, 2024\, Trump was shot in an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. On July 15\, 2024\, the first day of the Republican National Convention\, Trump officially announced that Senator J. D. Vance would be his running mate. A number of primary election challengers have also declared their candidacies for the nomination of both major parties. The winner of this election is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 20\, 2025. \nBiden has dropped out of the presidential race\, click image to read\nIt will occur at the same time as elections to the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House; several states will also be holding gubernatorial and state legislative elections. Prior to the general election\, political parties will choose their nominees at nominating conventions. Delegates to the nominating conventions will be chosen by voters in state-level caucuses and primary elections. In October 2023\, environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced his run as an independent presidential candidate. By the next month\, Kennedy’s polling was at the highest levels for a third-party candidate since Ross Perot in 1992. Cornel West has also announced a campaign on a social democratic and pro-Palestine platform. Colorado and Maine have ruled that Trump is ineligible to hold office\, and as such is disqualified from appearing on the ballot\, due to his role in the January 6 Capitol attack. However\, the rulings are stayed pending appeal. This is the first presidential election to occur after the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Abortion access\, healthcare\, education\, the economy\, foreign policy\, LGBT rights\, and democracy are expected to be leading campaign issues. \nDonald Trump assumed office as the 47th president of the United States on January 20\, 2025.
