DESCRIPTION:In heel Nederland klinkt op elke eerste maandag van de maand om 12:00 het luchtalarm van het waarschuwingsstelsel of waarschuwings- en alarmeringssysteem (WAS)\, behalve op feestdagen\, Nationale Dodenherdenking of bij andere speciale gebeurtenissen. \nDe test duurt 1 minuut en 26 seconden. In juni en december wordt tevens een NL-Alert testbericht verstuurd naar mobiele (GSM) telefoons. Het WAS is een netwerk van 4278 sirenes in Nederland die draadloos en onafhankelijk van elkaar aangezet kunnen worden vanuit de alarmcentrale van de regionale brandweer. De sirenes worden gebruikt om te waarschuwen via een luchtalarm voor (dreigend) gevaar\, met name indien er gevaarlijke stoffen in de lucht aanwezig (kunnen) zijn. Het systeem is ontwikkeld door Siemens\, en gebruikt elektronische sirenes op basis van de Federal Signal Modulator 2008 en 1004. Het waarschuwingsstelsel is eigendom van het Ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid\, en is op 3 juni 1998 in gebruik genomen. De bevolking is van tevoren geïnstrueerd om in het geval dat de sirene afgaat naar binnen te gaan\, ramen en deuren te sluiten en radio of televisie aan te zetten. Op de aangewezen calamiteitenzenders kan de overheid verdere aanwijzingen geven\, bijvoorbeeld dat een gebied geëvacueerd zal worden. \nExtinction Rebellion maakt er met de actie Luchtalarm – dit is een noodgeval! telkens met kleurrijke vlaggen en banners een mooi maar bloedserieus moment van. Met deze actie wil Extinction Rebellion NL aandacht vragen voor de klimaatcrisis en de biodiversiteitscrisis en duidelijk maken dat het al vijf over twaalf is. Sluit je voor een paar minuten aan bij deze actie en laat zien dat je ook vindt dat de overheid in actie moet komen om een leefbare toekomst voor ons en onze kinderen te waarborgen. Kom langs en doe mee! Iedereen is welkom. Neem borden mee\, we delen tijdens de actie ook patches uit waarmee we onze boodschap kunnen uitdragen. \n‘Het Ballenalarm‘ is een ludieke actie waarmee de Stichting Zaadbalkanker vraagt om extra aandacht voor zaadbalkanker\, ook wel teelbalkanker genoemd. Het idee is dat mannen op de eerste maandag van de maand om 12:00 – als de maandelijkse alarmsirenes loeien – hun teelballen checken\, en dit elke maand opnieuw. DESCRIPTION:On July 6\, cooperatives around the world will celebrate the Day of Cooperatives. \nCo-operatives have been acknowledged as associations and enterprises through which citizens can effectively improve their lives while contributing to the economic\, social\, cultural and political advancement of their community and nation. The co-operative movement has been also recognized as a distinct and major stakeholder in both national and international affairs. Co-operatives’ open membership model affords access to wealth creation and poverty elimination. This results from the co-operative principle of members’ economic participation: ‘Members contribute equitably to\, and democratically control\, the capital of their co-operative.’ Because co-operatives are people-centred\, not capital-centred \, they do not perpetuate\, nor accelerate capital concentration and they distribute wealth in a more fair way. Co-operatives also foster external equality. As they are community-based\, they are committed to the sustainable development of their communities – environmentally\, socially and economically. This commitment can be seen in their support for community activities\, local sourcing of supplies to benefit the local economy\, and in decision-making that considers the impact on their communities. Despite their local community focus\, co-operatives also aspire to bring the benefits of their economic and social model to all people in the world. Globalization should be governed by a set of values such as those of the co-operative movement; otherwise\, it creates more inequality and excesses that render it unsustainable. The cooperative movement is highly democratic\, locally autonomous\, but internationally integrated\, and a form of organization of associations and enterprises whereby citizens themselves rely on self-help and their own responsibility to meet goals that include not only economic\, but also social and environmental objectives\, such as overcoming poverty\, securing productive employment and encouraging social integration. \nThe 2026 theme of the United Nations International Day of Cooperatives\, “Cooperatives for a peaceful world”\, affirms the contribution of cooperative enterprises to social justice\, inclusion and solidarity. It recognizes cooperatives as people-centered institutions that can help build trust\, strengthen social cohesion and bring communities together around shared needs and aspirations. In a world marked by conflict\, inequality\, social fragmentation and declining trust\, the theme recalls that peace is more than the absence of violence: it also requires inclusion\, fairness\, dialogue and economic security. Announced by the International Cooperative Alliance\, this year’s theme also reflects the capacity of the cooperative model to serve as a bridge between people and communities. Through democratic ownership\, open membership and collective responsibility\, cooperatives create spaces in which people can participate\, be heard and work together across social and economic divides. DESCRIPTION:Independence Day (“Onafhankelijkheidsdag”)\, ook wel Fourth of July genoemd\, is in de Verenigde Staten van Amerika een nationale feestdag ter viering van de aanname van de Amerikaanse Onafhankelijkheidsverklaring op 4 juli 1776\, waarmee de onafhankelijkheid van de VS tegenover het Koninkrijk Groot-Brittannië werd bevestigd. \nIndependence Day wordt veelal geassocieerd met parades\, barbecues\, picknicks\, honkbalspelletjes\, vuurwerk en verschillende andere publieke- en privégelegenheden ter viering van de historie en tradities van de Verenigde Staten van Amerika. Ten tijde van de Amerikaanse Revolutie werden de dertien koloniën wettelijk onafhankelijk van Groot-Brittannië op 2 juli 1776: op die dag stemde het Tweede Continentale Congres voor een onafhankelijkheidsresolutie die in juni dat jaar was ingediend door Richard Henry Lee uit Virginia. Het congres richtte zich daarna op de Verklaring van onafhankelijkheid (Declaration of Independence) waarin dit besluit werd toegelicht. Een commissie van vijf\, met Thomas Jefferson als belangrijkste auteur\, stelde daar de tekst voor op. De tekst werd door het congres besproken en aangepast waarna deze op 4 juli werd goedgekeurd. New Englanders hebben de Britten bevochten sinds april 1775. De eerste motie in het Continental Congress voor onafhankelijkheid werd gemaakt op 8 juni. Op 2 juli\, na een zwaar debat\, stemde het congres unaniem (12-0) maar in het geheim\, vóór de onafhankelijkheid van het Koninkrijk Groot-Brittannië (New York onthield zich van beide stemmen). Philadelphia vierde de verklaring met publieke lezingen en vreugdevuren op 8 juli. Pas op 2 augustus werd een afdruk getekend door de leden van het congres\, maar zelfs dit werd geheimgehouden ter bescherming van de leden tegen Britse represaillemaatregelen. Na die tijd werd en wordt nu nog steeds elk jaar de Amerikaanse onafhankelijkheid gevierd. DESCRIPTION:Sit-in door een groep Nederlandse ambtenaren die zich ernstige zorgen maakt over het aanhoudende Israëlische offensief in Gaza – dat volgens het Internationaal Gerechtshof bestempeld werd als plausibele genocide- en het Nederlandse beleid in reactie hierop. \nJe kent ze misschien van de sit-ins die elke donderdag om 12:00 plaatsvinden voor het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Als ambtenaren zijn zij doordrongen van het belang van internationaal recht. Ze legden een eed af op de Grondwet\, inclusief artikel 90 waarin staat dat de regering de internationale rechtsorde bevordert. Het is aan de politiek om het beleid uiteen te zetten\, dat klopt. Maar ook de politiek heeft zich te houden aan onze Grondwet en aan internationaal verdragsrechtelijke verplichtingen. Het is aan ambtenaren om de politiek erop te wijzen wanneer beleid het internationaal recht (mogelijk) schaadt. En die taak – die plicht – nemen zij zeer serieus. Zij verwachten van onze regering dat zij zich onvermoeibaar in gaat zetten voor consistente naleving van het internationaal recht. Concreet stellen zij vier eisen aan de Nederlandse regering en verwachten wij van de regering dat alle diplomatieke middelen worden aangewend om onderstaande te bewerkstelligen: \n1. Maximale inzet op een onmiddellijk en permanent staakt-het-vuren en volledige humanitaire toegang tot Gaza. \n2. ⁠Een eind aan alle vormen van steun voor én rechtvaardiging van Israëls huidige militaire optreden in Gaza en erkenning van het internationale humanitaire en oorlogsrecht; \n3. ⁠De onmiddellijke naleving van uitspraken van het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ). \n4. Een strategie voor duurzame vrede\, met garanties voor de mensenrechten en veiligheid van zowel Palestijnen als Israëliërs. \nLinks:\nAmbtenaren en de Grondwet

DESCRIPTION:De Commissie van Toezicht op de Inlichtingen en Veiligheidsdiensten (CTIVD) onderzocht of de Algemene Inlichtingen- en Veiligheidsdienst (AIVD) en de Militaire Inlichtingen- en Veiligheidsdienst (MIVD) aan de wettelijke randvoorwaarden voldoen bij grootschalige dataverwerking: een aantal belangrijke waarborgen is niet op orde\, hierdoor zijn gegevens onrechtmatig verwerkt. \nDe AIVD en de MIVD maken bij de uitvoering van hun wettelijke taken gebruik van zogenaamde bulkdatasets. Dit zijn omvangrijke verzamelingen persoonsgegevens met soms miljoenen regels gegevens. Daarbij kan het gaan om namen en telefoonnummers maar ook om locatiegegevens\, sociale mediagegevens of inhoudelijke communicatiegegevens. De datasets die de diensten gebruiken zijn onder meer afkomstig van andere onderdelen van de overheid. Ook kan het gaan om datasets die commercieel verkrijgbaar zijn of gestolen datasets die door hackers op het internet worden aangeboden. De AIVD en de MIVD mogen bulkdata onder meer gebruiken bij onderzoek naar terrorisme en spionagedreigingen uit andere landen. Wel zijn hier bepaalde voorwaarden aan verbonden. Zo mogen de gegevens na verwerving maar een beperkte tijd bewaard blijven. Ook mogen binnen de AIVD en de MIVD maar een beperkt aantal personen met de gegevens werken en moet de toegang tot de gegevens worden beperkt. De diensten moeten gegevens vernietigen die niet relevant blijken voor onderzoek van de diensten. De CTIVD concludeert dat de AIVD en de MIVD hun processen niet goed op orde hebben. Zo hadden groepen medewerkers onrechtmatig toegang tot persoonsgegevens. Ook werden grote hoeveelheden persoonsgegevens in meerdere gevallen te lang bewaard. De CTIVD stelt vast dat de problemen worden veroorzaakt door technische tekortkomingen in de systemen van de diensten. Ook schieten procedures tekort die de naleving van beleid en regelgeving moeten garanderen. Daarom doet de toezichthouder 13 aanbevelingen ter verbetering. Dit onderzoek heeft geleid tot een toezichtrapport over de verwerking van bulkdatasets door de AIVD en de MIVD\, gepubliceerd op 1 juli 2026. De ministers van BZK en Defensie hebben de rapporten met hun beleidsreacties en bijbehorende bijlage aan het parlement gestuurd. Ministers Heerma (BZK) en Yesilgöz (Defensie) stellen dat de AIVD en de MIVD het beeld herkennen dat door de CTIVD geschetst wordt. In een reactie op het rapport geven zij aan dat het oplossen van de problemen bij de diensten hoog op de agenda staat. Zowel de immigratie uit EU-landen als die van buiten de EU nam af\, het aantal immigranten met de Nederlandse nationaliteit bleef gelijk. Vooral het aantal asiel- en kennismigranten van buiten de EU daalde. Dat meldt het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) op basis van recente cijfers. Bijna de helft van de immigranten kwam in 2025 uit landen buiten de EU en EFTA. Bijna 37 procent komt uit een EU- of EFTA-land en 14 procent heeft de Nederlandse nationaliteit. An important feature of the Tropics is the prevalence of rain in the moist inner regions near the equator\, and that the seasonality of rainfall increases with the distance from the equator. The tropical region faces several challenges such as climate change\, deforestation\, logging\, urbanisation and demographic changes. Tropical nations have made significant progress but face a variety of challenges that demand focused attention across a range of development indicators and data in order to achieve sustainable development. \n\nBy 2050\, the region will host most of the world’s people and two-thirds of its children.\nConsistent with the higher levels of poverty\, more people experience undernourishment in the Tropics than in the rest of the world.\nThe proportion of the urban population living in slum conditions is higher in the Tropics than in the rest of the World.\n\nThe inaugural State of the Tropics Report was launched on 29 June 2014\, as the culmination of a collaboration between twelve leading tropical research institutions. The report offers a unique perspective on this increasingly important region. DESCRIPTION:Since October 2023\, Israel has been waging an extensive assault on all aspects of Palestinian existence in the West Bank. \nThis includes a broad\, systematic violation of human rights\, first among them the most basic right – to life. Lethal\, unbridled violence employed by the Israeli regime’s armed forces\, including the military and settler militias\, has led to an unprecedent increase in the killing of Palestinians\, and particularly the killing of children and teenagers by Israeli forces. Over the course of two years and eight months\, from 7 October 2023 to 7 June 2026\, Israeli forces killed 235 Palestinian children and teenagers in the West Bank. Five others were killed by settlers. In 2025 alone\, the year that is the focus of this investigation\, Israeli forces killed 54 Palestinian children and teenagers in the West Bank. The unprecedented scale of killing of Palestinian children and teenagers by Israeli forces is the result of a reckless open-fire policy\, expanded to be even more permissive than in the past\, that is currently being implemented in the West Bank. Those responsible do not try to hide this policy; rather\, they give it full systemic backing\, as reflected in the remarks of Central Command Chief Avi Bluth\, who publicly boasted that “we are killing like we haven’t killed since 1967.” Bluth’s claim that “96% of those killed were involved in terrorism” – an allegation exposed as a brazen lie by documentation of the circumstances of death in B’Tselem’s list of Palestinian fatalities – also reflects the Israeli system’s routine identification of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces as “terrorists” or “terror operatives”\, including civilians who were not members of an armed organization and posed no danger at the time they were killed. B’Tselem’s investigation ‘Unshielded Childhood: Palestinian children and teenagers killed by Israel in the West Bank in 2025‘ of these cases found that only two of the 54 Palestinian children and teenagers killed in the West Bank in 2025 were armed with firearms at the time they were shot. This identification creates\, de facto\, systemic impunity for killing. The Israeli system does not stop at justifying these killings after the fact. It also refrains almost entirely from holding the perpetrators accountable. According to data from the human rights organization Yesh Din\, since the start of the war in October 2023\, no indictments are known to have been filed in cases involving killings in the West Bank. Yet the immunity guaranteed in advance and the absence of any real demand for accountability after these crimes are committed are not confined to the legal sphere. They are also reflected in “public impunity” that stems from the Israeli public’s indifference to the killing of Palestinian children. In this context\, the sharp rise in the killing of children in the West Bank by Israeli forces cannot be separated from the more than 21\,000 Palestinian children that Israel has killed as part of its genocidal assault on the Gaza Strip since October 2023. The fact that even this inconceivable number has not led to public demands for a change in the policy of killing shows how far the dehumanization of Palestinians has gone in Israeli eyes. Production\, seizures and use of cocaine continue to rise\, while low costs of manufacture and reduced risks of detection of synthetic drugs are contributing to their increase on illicit drug markets. Drug trafficking groups are seeking out technological innovation to target new audiences and ensure that drugs increasingly reach their users and help boost their billion-dollar businesses. Illicit drug markets have always been adapting\, and organized crime has always been looking to exploit gaps in governance and regulation. In response to these challenges\, this year’s campaign will showcase how the international community\, local and national governments\, civil society and the public is working together on innovative responses to reduce demand for and supply of illicit drugs and thus mitigate threats. Concerns about protecting national security and borders are increasingly used to allow torture and other forms of cruel\, degrading and inhuman treatment. Its pervasive consequences often go beyond the isolated act on an individual; and can be transmitted through generations and lead to cycles of violence. The United Nations has condemned torture from the outset as one of the vilest acts perpetrated by human beings on their fellow human beings. Torture is a crime under international law. According to all relevant instruments\, it is absolutely prohibited and cannot be justified under any circumstances. This prohibition forms part of customary international law\, which means that it is binding on every member of the international community\, regardless of whether a State has ratified international treaties in which torture is expressly prohibited. The systematic or widespread practice of torture constitutes a crime against humanity. DESCRIPTION:Sit-in door een groep Nederlandse ambtenaren die zich ernstige zorgen maakt over het aanhoudende Israëlische offensief in Gaza – dat volgens het Internationaal Gerechtshof bestempeld werd als plausibele genocide- en het Nederlandse beleid in reactie hierop. \nJe kent ze misschien van de sit-ins die elke donderdag om 12:00 plaatsvinden voor het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Als ambtenaren zijn zij doordrongen van het belang van internationaal recht. Ze legden een eed af op de Grondwet\, inclusief artikel 90 waarin staat dat de regering de internationale rechtsorde bevordert. Het is aan de politiek om het beleid uiteen te zetten\, dat klopt. Maar ook de politiek heeft zich te houden aan onze Grondwet en aan internationaal verdragsrechtelijke verplichtingen. Het is aan ambtenaren om de politiek erop te wijzen wanneer beleid het internationaal recht (mogelijk) schaadt. En die taak – die plicht – nemen zij zeer serieus. Zij verwachten van onze regering dat zij zich onvermoeibaar in gaat zetten voor consistente naleving van het internationaal recht. Concreet stellen zij vier eisen aan de Nederlandse regering en verwachten wij van de regering dat alle diplomatieke middelen worden aangewend om onderstaande te bewerkstelligen: \n1. Maximale inzet op een onmiddellijk en permanent staakt-het-vuren en volledige humanitaire toegang tot Gaza. \n2. ⁠Een eind aan alle vormen van steun voor én rechtvaardiging van Israëls huidige militaire optreden in Gaza en erkenning van het internationale humanitaire en oorlogsrecht; \n3. ⁠De onmiddellijke naleving van uitspraken van het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ). \n4. Een strategie voor duurzame vrede\, met garanties voor de mensenrechten en veiligheid van zowel Palestijnen als Israëliërs. \nLinks:\nAmbtenaren en de Grondwet

DESCRIPTION:Day of the Seafarer is recognized by the United Nations as an observance day which takes place every year on 25 June. \nIt is organized by the International Maritime Organization and aims to increase awareness among the general public of the world’s seafarers for their unique\, and all-too-often overlooked\, contribution they make to the well-being of all of us. The Day of the Seafarer was established in a resolution adopted by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila to adopt the revised STCW Convention. Its stated purpose is to recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade\, the world economy and civil society as a whole. SUMMARY:Staking OV 24 juni 2026
DESCRIPTION:Woensdag 24 juni 2026 gaan OV-medewerkers door het heel Nederland staken. \nAls we volgens de vakbonden en WijReizenSamen nú niet van ons laten horen\, breekt het Nederlandse kabinet-Jette het sociale vangnet af dat je nú nog beschermt bij werkloosheid of arbeidsongeschiktheid. Ook wil het kabinet de pensioenleeftijd verhogen en bezuinigen op onze  zorg. Dat raakt iedere burger in Nederland onnodig hard. Terwijl winstgevende bedrijven en de allerrijksten niet meebetalen. Het kabinet kán eerlijkere keuzes maken maar doet dat niet. Dit is voor werkende mensen onacceptabel. Als het kabinet het ultimatum van de bonden negeert en de plannen niet voor woensdag 24 juni 2026 definitief van tafel haalt\, dan zal het openbaar vervoer in heel Nederland die dag tot 08:00 stilliggen en pas vanaf 08:00 weer op gang komen. De vakbonden hebben het kabinet gevraagd de afbraakplannen van tafel te halen. Dat heeft het kabinet niet gedaan. Er is alleen toegezegd de afspraken over de pensioenleeftijd niet nu al te breken. Als dit wanbeleid 24 juni niet definitief van tafel is\, komen er die dag landelijke acties. DESCRIPTION:World Whistleblowers Day was created to raise global public awareness in combating corruption\, the day is about the important role of whistleblowers in combating fraud\, abuse and corruption. \nWhistleblowing (also whistle-blowing or whistle blowing) is the activity of a person\, often an employee\, revealing information about activity within a private or public organization that is deemed illegal\, immoral\, illicit\, unsafe\, unethical or fraudulent. Whistleblowers can use a variety of internal or external channels to communicate information or allegations. Over 83% of whistleblowers report internally to a supervisor\, human resources\, compliance\, or a neutral third party within the company\, hoping that the company will address and correct the issues. A whistleblower can also bring allegations to light by communicating with external entities\, such as the media\, government\, or law enforcement. Some countries legislate as to what constitutes a protected disclosure\, and the permissible methods of presenting a disclosure. Whistleblowing can occur in the private sector or the public sector. Whistleblowers often face retaliation for their disclosure\, including termination of employment. \nSeveral other actions may also be considered retaliatory\, including an unreasonable increase in workloads\, reduction of hours\, preventing task completion\, mobbing or bullying. Laws in many countries attempt to provide protection for whistleblowers and regulate whistleblowing activities.
