De buien kunnen zich snel ontwikkelen. Hiervoor is code oranje van kracht in de provincies Limburg\, Gelderland en Overijssel. Er is daardoor kans op overlast voor het verkeer\, buitenactiviteiten zoals (water)sport en evenementen. Door blikseminslag is er kans op brand en schade.\nBelgië:\nDe kans op lokaal zwaar onweer wordt bevestigd in het tweede deel van de namiddag en vanavond voor de oostelijke helft van het land. Plaatselijk kan er 30-40 l/m2 vallen of eventueel nog meer. Het is uitkijken voor zware rukwinden die zeer lokaal mogelijk meer dan 100 km/u kunnen bedragen. DESCRIPTION:Aanhoudende hitte\, dinsdag en woensdag in het zuidoosten Nederland extreme hitte / Waarschuwingen voor België : Hitte.\n\nNederland:\nDe hitte houdt in het hele land tot en met woensdag 2 juli 2025 aan\, hiervoor is het Nationaal Hitteplan van kracht. Dinsdag 1 en woensdag 2 juli is er extreme hitte in Noord-Brabant\, Limburg en Gelderland\, ook in de nacht. Iedereen kan klachten krijgen zoals uitdroging en oververhitting\, maar vooral ouderen en mensen met een kwetsbare gezondheid. Doe geen zware lichamelijke activiteiten tussen 12:00 en 18:00. Er is weinig wind\, veel zon en het kan benauwd aanvoelen. Dinsdag wordt het bijna overal tropisch warm (30-34°C)\, met in de zuidelijke helft maximumtemperaturen boven de 35°C\, in het zuiden kan het plaatselijk 38°C worden. In de nacht naar woensdag blijft het in stedelijk gebied en in het zuidoosten erg warm met temperaturen tussen de 20 en 25°C. Woensdag wordt het landinwaarts tropisch warm (30-34°C) met in het zuidoosten en oosten maximumtemperaturen boven de 35°C en plaatselijk kan het opnieuw 38°C worden. Woensdagmiddag koelt het van het westen uit af.\nBelgië:\nZeer warme lucht bevindt zich over het land. Dinsdag verwacht het KMI maxima boven 35 graden op veel plaatsen in het westen en het centrum van het land. Lokaal is 37 graden mogelijk en een zeer lokale 38 graden is geenszins uit te sluiten. Woensdag komt er geleidelijk een wind op gang vanuit het westnoordwesten waardoor koelere lucht het land binnen stroomt. Hierdoor zouden de maxima aan zee beperkt blijven tot zo’n 22 à 23 graden\, elders in het westen tussen 23 en 29 graden. In het centrum verwachten we nog maxima rond 29 à 32 graden. DESCRIPTION:Desertification is the degradation of land in arid\, semi-arid and dry sub-humid areas\, it is caused primarily by human activities and climatic variations. \nDesertification does not refer to the expansion of existing deserts. It occurs because dryland ecosystems\, which cover over one third of the world’s land area\, are extremely vulnerable to overexploitation and inappropriate land use. Poverty\, political instability\, deforestation\, overgrazing and bad irrigation practices can all undermine the productivity of the land. The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed every year to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification. The day is a unique moment to remind everyone that land degradation neutrality is achievable through problem-solving\, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels. \nUnder the theme “Restore the land. Unlock the оpportunities”\, the 2025 observance shines a light on how restoring nature’s foundation—land—can create jobs\, boost food and water security\, support climate action and build economic resilience. Healthy land underpins thriving economies\, with over half of global GDP dependent on nature. Yet we are depleting this natural capital at an alarming rate: every minute\, the equivalent of four football fields is lost due to land degradation. This drives biodiversity loss\, increasing drought risk and displacing communities. The ripple effects are global—from rising food prices to instability and migration. Desertification\, land degradation\, and drought are among the most pressing environmental challenges of our time\, with up to 40% of all land area worldwide already considered degraded. As the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030 marks its halfway point\, we must accelerate efforts to turn the tide of land degradation into large-scale restoration. If current trends continue\, we will need to restore 1.5 billion hectares of land and jumpstart a trillion-dollar land restoration economy by 2030. Werknemers dreigen kind van de rekening te worden en de klimaatdoelen raken uit zicht. Daarom eisen de organisaties ambitieus en rechtvaardig industriebeleid mét inspraak\, zowel op Europees als nationaal niveau. De afgelopen twee jaar werkten de organisaties intensief samen in het project ‘Mijn Bedrijf Toekomstproof’. DESCRIPTION:Op 28 mei 2025 werd Blatten\, een gemeente en plaats in het Lötschental aan de oevers van Lonza\, in het Zwitserse kanton Wallis\, samen met de omliggende dalbodem voor 90% bedolven door een ijs- en steenlawine van 3 miljoen kubieke meter en nadien ontstond op de dalbodem stroomopwaarts een natuurlijk stuwmeer dat daar overgebleven huizen overstroomde. \nDe lawine bestond uit het omlaagstorten van een groot deel van de Birchgletsjer ten zuiden van het dorp\, die door het afbrokkelen van grote hoeveelheden puin van de hogergelegen top Kleines Nesthorn (3342 meter) instabiel geworden was. Vele huizen werden bedolven en verwoest. DESCRIPTION:Klik op afbeelding om te lezen\nThe Doomsday clock\, which symbolically measures how close the world is to nuclear war\, is currently at 89 seconds until midnight – the closest it’s ever been. \nOver the past few years\, we’ve also heard two presidents discuss the “nuclear option.” This is all to say that the world is surprisingly close to nuclear war. We’ve just become numb to that reality. But what happens after the nuclear bombs go off? A team led by researchers at Penn State have modelled precisely how various nuclear winter scenarios could affect global production of corn\, the most widely planted grain crop in the world. They also recommended preparing ‘agricultural resilience kits’ with seeds for faster-growing varieties better adapted to colder temperatures that could potentially help offset the effects of nuclear winter\, as well as natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions. In findings recently published in Environmental Research Letters\, the team reported that the level of corn crop decline would vary\, depending on the scale of the conflict. A regional nuclear war\, which would send about 5.5 tonnes of soot into the atmosphere\, could reduce worldwide annual corn production by seven per cent. A large-scale global war\, injecting 165 tonnes of soot into the atmosphere\, could lead to an 80 per cent drop in annual corn yields. In all\, the study simulated six nuclear war scenarios with varying soot injections. \nBecause of the crop’s global significance\, the researchers chose to model corn’s collapse in a nuclear winter to represent the expected fate of agriculture overall\, according to study first author Yuning Shi\, associate research professor in Penn State’s Department of Plant Science. He noted that an 80 per cent drop in global crop production would have catastrophic consequences\, leading to a widespread global food crisis. Even a seven per cent drop in global crop production would have a severe effect on the global food system and economy\, likely resulting in increased food insecurity and hunger. The simulations were possible thanks to the Cycles agroecosystem model\, created a few years ago by scientists in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences\, including lead developer Armen Kemanian\, professor of production systems and modelling and corresponding author on this study. DESCRIPTION:2024 European State of the Climate: Striking east-west contrast and widespread flooding in Europe’s warmest year. \nThe European State of the Climate 2024 (ESOTC 2024) report\, released on 15 April 2025 by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)\, involves around 100 scientific contributors providing holistic yet concise insights into Europe’s climate\, including through resources such as a brand-new graphics gallery with 130 charts and infographics. C3S is implemented by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts on behalf of the European Commission. Since 2018\, the service has released the ESOTC\, a detailed analysis of Europe’s climate for the previous year\, going beyond annual temperature with analyses of a wide range of climate variables\, from heat and cold stress to sunshine duration and cloudiness\, from wildfires to glaciers and much more. Europe is the fastest-warming continent\, and the impacts of climate change here are clear. 2024 was the warmest year on record for Europe\, with record temperatures in central\, eastern and southeastern regions. Storms were often severe and flooding widespread\, claiming at least 335 lives and affecting an estimated 413\,000 people. During the year\, there was a striking east-west contrast in climate conditions\, with extremely dry and often record-warm conditions in the east\, and warm but wet conditions in the west. \nSpotlight topics for the ESOTC 2024 include an overview of flooding in Europe\, with a focus on the extreme events in central and eastern Europe associated with Storm Boris\, and those in Valencia\, Spain\, as well as the extreme heat and drought in southeastern Europe during the summer.  30% of the European river network exceeded the ‘high’ flood threshold during the year\, while 12% exceeded the ‘severe’ flood threshold. In September\, Storm Boris affected hundreds of thousands of people\, with flooding\, fatalities and damage in parts of Germany\, Poland\, Austria\, Hungary\, Czechia\, Slovakia\, Romania and Italy.  At the end of October\, Spain saw extreme precipitation and flooding leading to devastating impacts and fatalities in the province of Valencia and neighbouring regions.  Southeastern Europe experienced its longest heatwave on record in July 2024\, lasting 13 consecutive days and affecting 55% of the region. There were record-breaking numbers of days with at least ‘strong heat stress’ (66) and tropical nights (23) in southeastern Europe during summer.  For the first time\, these spotlight sections also provide information on trends in flooding\, and extreme heat and drought in Europe\, summarising key findings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). If it’s not properly accounted for\, future sea-level rise may be vastly underestimated. Including the effects of evolving subglacial water in ice sheet models can triple the amount of ice flowing to the ocean. Sterker nog: al afgeschafte fossiele subsidies worden opnieuw ingevoerd. \nTegelijkertijd luidt de VN de noodklok in het jaarlijkse Emissions Gap Report: de uitstoot moet drastisch omlaag om klimaatcatastrofe te voorkomen. Het Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving (PBL) concludeerde dat ‘het heel erg onwaarschijnlijk is dat Nederland het wettelijke klimaatdoel van 55 procent emissiereductie in 2030 haalt’. Zelfs als alle landen hun nationale ambities waarmaken\, komt de opwarming uit op 2\,6 graden. Terwijl voor miljoenen mensen de ellende nu al nauwelijks te overzien is: klimaatrampen volgen elkaar steeds sneller op. En de fossiele subsidies zijn de motor van deze crisis. Dat de regering doorgaat met het subsidiëren van de fossiele industrie is ronduit misdadig. De wereld staat in brand en de Nederlandse overheid weigert in actie te komen. 39\,7 tot 46\,4 miljard euro aan fossiele subsidies per jaar gaat er vanuit onze overheid aan kortingen naar grote fossiele bedrijven. De fossiele industrie jaagt met de tientallen miljarden euro’s aan fossiele subsidies de wereldwijde klimaat en ecologische crisis aan. Zij zijn daarmee verantwoordelijk voor miljoenen slachtoffers van klimaat rampen. En dat wordt gestimuleerd door onze overheid. Dit kan niet meer en mag niet meer. Op 5 april 2025 blokkeren daarom duizenden bezorgde burgers opnieuw de A12. Leraren\, zorgmedewerkers\, wetenschappers\, sociaal werkers\, ambtenaren en nog veel meer. Sterker nog: al afgeschafte fossiele subsidies worden opnieuw ingevoerd. \nTegelijkertijd luidt de VN de noodklok in het jaarlijkse Emissions Gap Report: de uitstoot moet drastisch omlaag om klimaatcatastrofe te voorkomen. Het Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving (PBL) concludeerde dat ‘het heel erg onwaarschijnlijk is dat Nederland het wettelijke klimaatdoel van 55 procent emissiereductie in 2030 haalt’. Zelfs als alle landen hun nationale ambities waarmaken\, komt de opwarming uit op 2\,6 graden. Terwijl voor miljoenen mensen de ellende nu al nauwelijks te overzien is: klimaatrampen volgen elkaar steeds sneller op. En de fossiele subsidies zijn de motor van deze crisis. Dat de regering doorgaat met het subsidiëren van de fossiele industrie is ronduit misdadig. De wereld staat in brand en de Nederlandse overheid weigert in actie te komen. 39\,7 tot 46\,4 miljard euro aan fossiele subsidies per jaar gaat er vanuit onze overheid aan kortingen naar grote fossiele bedrijven. De fossiele industrie jaagt met de tientallen miljarden euro’s aan fossiele subsidies de wereldwijde klimaat en ecologische crisis aan. Zij zijn daarmee verantwoordelijk voor miljoenen slachtoffers van klimaat rampen. En dat wordt gestimuleerd door onze overheid. Dit kan niet meer en mag niet meer. Op 5 april 2025 blokkeren daarom duizenden bezorgde burgers opnieuw de A12. Leraren\, zorgmedewerkers\, wetenschappers\, sociaal werkers\, ambtenaren en nog veel meer. DESCRIPTION:De overheid heeft de taak om ons eerlijk te beschermen in de klimaatcrisis\, maar doet dit niet. \nOf je nu op Ameland\, Bonaire of in Valkenburg woont\, iedereen wil dat de regering ons beschermt tegen de gevolgen van de klimaatcrisis. Nu én in de toekomst. Maar Den Haag doet te weinig om ons te beschermen. En voor de inwoners van Bonaire heeft de regering niet eens een plan. Dat druist in tegen hun mensenrechten. We moeten nu actie zien\, dat is van levensbelang. Eis jij ook rechtvaardigheid? Inwoners van Bonaire eisen samen met Greenpeace rechtvaardig klimaatbeleid: \n\nDe regering moet gevaarlijke klimaatverandering tegengaan: haar fair share leveren aan het doel van maximaal 1\,5 graad Celsius opwarming wereldwijd en de CO2-uitstoot sneller terugdringen.\nDe regering moet plannen maken om inwoners van Bonaire te beschermen tegen de gevolgen van klimaatverandering\, die nu al gevoeld worden.\n\n8 Inwoners van Bonaire en Greenpeace Nederland stapten naar de rechtbank. Waarom? De overheid behandelt mensen in de Caribische gemeenten nog steeds alsof ze er minder toe doen dan de rest van ons. En dat terwijl deze gemeenten extra kwetsbaar zijn voor overstromingen\, extreme hitte en regenval. Op 28 januari 2026 deed de rechtbank uitspraak\, Greenpeace en de inwoners van Bonaire hebben gelijk gekregen in de rechtbank. Volgens NOS beoordeelt de rechter dat de Nederlandse staat de inwoners van Bonaire heeft gediscrimineerd door ze niet genoeg tegen klimaatverandering te beschermen. De Staat wordt verplicht om een met een plan te komen voor klimaatadaptatie op Bonaire\, en met bindende doelen voor uitstootdaling. Na acties als de tunnelblokkade\, de bezoekersstaking en de actie tijdens Museumnacht (waarvoor het Rijks dichtging)\, gaat het nu weer om een geheime disruptieve actie. Het is de zestiende keer dat Extinction Rebellion actievoert tegen deze sponsorrelatie en\, als het Rijksmuseum grootvervuiler ING de hand boven het hoofd blijft houden\, zeker niet de laatste.
