SUMMARY:Mathematics: The rise of the Machines?
DESCRIPTION:Yang-Hui He reflects on what the growing collaboration between humans and AI means for the future of mathematics. \nArtificial intelligence is no longer confined to crunching numbers—it is beginning to propose original theorems\, sketch proofs and reveal new and unexpected patterns in the abstract world of mathematics. Join Yang-Hui He of the London Institute for Mathematical Sciences—one of the pioneers of AI-assisted discovery— as he explores how machine learning is transforming both the practice and philosophy of mathematical research. Drawing on his own leading-edge work\, alongside insights from a recent gathering in Berkeley where mathematicians challenged a powerful AI to solve problems specifically designed to resist automation\, he traces the emergence of a new form of mathematical exploration. By fusing human intuition with computational power\, this evolving partnership is reshaping research and redefining the creative boundaries of the field. Livestream audience: pay what you can\, Eventbrite booking fee not included. The Royal Institution of Great Britain will try to upload events to their YouTube channel within a couple months’ time. Here\, it is free for everyone to view. \nLinks:\nMathematics: The rise of the Machines?

SUMMARY:2025 International Virtual Science Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS) is an opportunity for Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) students to showcase their research to the rest of the community. \nProjects are judged by prestigious scientists and Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Mathematics (STEM) professionals across dozens of GLOBE nations. Students are eligible for GLOBE badges. Students may submit a project on any topic\, but they are encouraged to align their research with the year’s theme\, in 2025 “30 Years of GLOBE: Understanding the Past\, Present\, and Future.” Students from across all 127 member countries take up the challenge of doing their own research using GLOBE Protocols and accessing and analyzing data from the NASA GLOBE Database as part of their IVSS project. The highlighted badge for the 2025 IVSS is the “I am a Data Scientist” badge since data analysis using historical data from the NASA GLOBE Database is a required portion for each IVSS submission in 2025. \nLinks:\n2025 International Virtual Science Symposium \n\n\nGLOBE Program
