DESCRIPTION:The report ‘Exploring Everyday Microplastic Exposures‘ reveals shocking scale of hidden global microplastic exposure. \nThe report highlights the vast scale of microplastic exposure in daily life in what experts are calling a “microplastic storm” from overlooked and emerging sources. Funded by Plastic Soup Foundation and The Flotilla Foundation\, ‘Exploring Everyday Microplastic Exposures’\, the first-of-its-kind report draws on over 350 peer-reviewed studies and concludes that human exposure is continuous and global. The findings lay bare an exposure crisis through mapping microplastic release across five categories of everyday life: outdoor sources\, indoor environments\, children’s products\, healthcare and personal care\, and food and drink. By highlighting a continuous flow of particles generated from overlooked and emerging sources the report reframes the plastics crisis as a systemic exposure issue embedded across modern society. Among the report’s most striking findings is evidence that emerging climate interventions could make microplastic exposure significantly worse. For example\, stratospheric aerosol injection – a form of solar geoengineering being advanced by countries including the United Kingdom and United States – involves dispersing vast quantities of particles high into the atmosphere. Multiple patents already exist describing the release of particles including micro sized polymeric particles at altitudes of up to 20 km in the atmosphere\, creating a potentially ‘tera scale’ source of intentionally added airborne microplastics and fallout. The research identifies that rainfall already contains microplastics with wear and tear from car tires and synthetic textiles and clothing contributing to atmospheric pollution. In hospitals\, plastic particles may be introduced into the body via devices and treatments\, with microplastic fallout in operating rooms recorded at up to 9\,258 particles per square meter during a single shift. Cardiac catheters\, silicone breast implants\, orthopedic implants or intravenous fluid all cited as sources with the potential of inadvertently dosing patients with microplastics. Startlingly\, premature babies fed intravenously in neonatal units are estimated to receive up to 115 microplastic particles over a 72-hour feeding period from the infusion circuits alone. Baby formula intake exposes babies to microplastics at levels from <1 to 17 microplastics per gram formula with packaging types playing a role in releasing the observed microplastics. Children’s products are also of significant concern – building bricks\, baby play mats and other products for children releasing PET\, polypropylene\, polyethylene and PVC into a child’s living environment. As children naturally ingest more settled dust during play and breathe in more air per kilogram bodyweight\, their exposure is proportionally higher than adults. Another unexpected indoor exposure is via paint. Plastic is the main component of many paint products and such paint emit microplastics when it wears down or when old layers are scraped off. General Assembly please consider a resolution for establishing an ‘International Day of Volcanoes’ on 10th April every year. \nTanguy De Saint-Cyr\, owner of French volcano tour company\, that came up with the concept for an ‘International Day of Volcanoes’ and Jeannie Curtis\, a New Zealand technical writer and educator are proposing an ‘International Day of Volcanoes’ to be officially recognised and observed by the United Nations and ask that the General Assembly please consider a resolution for establishing an ‘International Day of Volcanoes’ on 10th April. The date of 10th April has no recognised international day and we propose this date for the following reason: On 10 April 1815 Gunung (Mount) Tambora in Indonesia erupted and generated massive pyroclastic flows and tsunami that instantly killed 10\,000 locals\, who were unaware of the danger. The massive eruption injected huge amounts of aerosols into the Earth’s stratosphere\, causing a global haze which reflected back the incoming sunlight and cooled our planet by half a degree (celsius). This affected the planet’s climate for three years\, causing crop failure and famine\, resulting in up to 60\,000 more human deaths globally – as well as affecting animals\, fauna and agriculture. DESCRIPTION:De Nationale Bijentelling wordt georganiseerd door Naturalis Biodiversity Center\, LandschappenNL\, en IVN Natuureducatie\, in samenwerking met EIS Kenniscentrum Insecten en Waarneming.nl en mede-initiatiefnemer Natuur & Milieu. \nHet doel is om zoveel mogelijk over bijen te weten komen\, zodat we de bij beter kunnen helpen. Daarom wordt iedereen gevraagd om mee te doen aan dit landelijk bijenonderzoek. In Nederland komen bijna 360 bijensoorten voor. Ruim de helft daarvan is bedreigd. Bijen zijn belangrijk voor bestuiving: 80% van onze eetbare gewassen en bijna 90% van onze wilde planten worden bestoven door bijen en andere insecten. Meedoen is eenvoudig\, ook voor wie weinig of geen kennis van bijen heeft. DESCRIPTION:Jaarlijks op 18 april vieren radioamateurs wereldwijd World Amateur Radio Day\, het was namelijk op deze dag in 1925 dat de International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) werd opgericht in Parijs. \nDe IARU behartigt wereldwijd de belangen van radioamateurs en de VERON doet dat voor alle Nederlandse amateurs via de IARU. Radioamateurs toonden als eersten aan dat het korte golfspectrum bepaald geen waardeloos stuk radiospectrum is. Integendeel\, zo bleek\, op de korte golf is wereldwijde propagatie van radiosignalen mogelijk. In alle haast om de korte golf commercieel te gaan gebruiken\, dreigden radioamateurs volledig buitengesloten te worden. Mede daarom richtten enkele radiopioniers in 1925 de IARU op. Twee jaar later\, op de International Radiotelegrapgh Conference\, kregen radioamateurs toegang tot de 10m-\, 20m-\, 40m-\, 80m- en 160m-band. Tot de dag van vandaag mogen de inmiddels 3.000.000 gelicentieerde radioamateurs deze frequentiebanden gebruiken. De eerste demonstratie van de reeks vindt plaats op 14 maart\, de laatste op 19 december. Andere onderdelen van die campagne zijn: een petitie die op 12 februari is gelanceerd\, een oproep aan organisaties om die petitie te ondersteunen\, en een officiële verplaatsingsprocedure die nog in gang moet worden gezet. Uit de oproeptekst: “Jan Pieterszoon Coen was verantwoordelijk voor extreem koloniaal geweld\, waaronder de genocide op de Banda-eilanden in 1621.
