DESCRIPTION:CC BY-SA 3.0\nEen geïntegreerde schakeling (van het Engelse integrated circuit\, IC) oftewel een monolithische geïntegreerde schakeling is een samenstel van verschillende elektronische componenten (zoals transistors) op een enkel stuk halfgeleidermateriaal\, bij grotere IC’s spreekt men wel van chip of microchip. \nIC’s zijn tegenwoordig in bijna alle elektrische toestellen van enige complexiteit (computers\, mobiele telefoons\, wasmachines\, auto’s) aanwezig. Ook is een microchip aanwezig in een betaalkaart\, de OV-chipkaart en in transponders die gebruikt worden om huisdieren te kunnen identificeren. De eerste werkende geïntegreerde schakeling werd op 12 september 1958 door Jack Kilby van Texas Instruments gepresenteerd. Vier maanden later deed Robert Noyce van Fairchild Semiconductor een soortgelijke uitvinding. Hoewel Noyce later was dan Kilby werd de patentenstrijd uiteindelijk in 1969 in het voordeel van Noyce beslist. De uitvinding van de geïntegreerde schakeling heeft een vergaande miniaturisatie van alle elektronische apparatuur mogelijk gemaakt. Het programma stelt zich ten doel inzicht in de werking van de samenleving te verschaffen. \nOp 2 april 2025\, kondigde Donald Trump vanaf het balkon van het Witte Huis Liberation Day af. In een fel nationalistische toespraak verklaarde hij dat Amerika zich “definitief had bevrijd” van de ketenen van globalisering. Nieuwe\, torenhoge importtarieven zouden vanaf dat moment gelden voor staal\, halfgeleiders\, elektrische auto’s en een reeks consumentengoederen uit China en Europa. “From now on\,” riep hij\, “we build\, we buy\, we win at home.” De reacties waren onmiddellijk en wereldwijd voelbaar. In Beijing sprak de regering van een “economische oorlogsverklaring.” Europese leiders riepen spoedoverleggen bijeen om een gezamenlijk antwoord te formuleren\, terwijl beursvloeren van Frankfurt tot Seoul rood kleurden. De afgelopen maanden is duidelijk geworden dat de globalisering die onze wereld decennialang heeft vormgegeven\, scheuren vertoont. Trump heeft de tarieven opnieuw fors verhoogd: staal\, halfgeleiders\, elektrische auto’s – niets ontsnapt aan zijn handelsoorlog. De boodschap is helder: Amerika wil minder afhankelijk zijn van de rest van de wereld\, en de rest van de wereld van Amerika. \nHet is precies dit moment dat de Amerikaanse econoom en journalist Rana Foroohar al jaren heeft zien aankomen. In haar boek Homecoming beschreef ze hoe landen en bedrijven steeds meer productie terughalen\, hoe veerkracht belangrijker wordt dan efficiency\, en hoe er een nieuwe economische geografie ontstaat waarin nabijheid en onafhankelijkheid de boventoon voeren. SUMMARY:Dag voor het Behoud van de Ozonlaag / Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer 2025
DESCRIPTION:De ozonlaag is een dun laagje gas dat ligt tussen de 15 en 50 kilometer hoogte en als een ring om onze aarde zit met als belangrijkste eigenschap; het beschermt ons tegen de schadelijke straling (ultraviolette straling) die afkomstig is van de zon. \nZonder de ozonlaag is leven op aarde niet mogelijk. Door vervuiling wordt de ozonlaag steeds dunner. Hierdoor lopen mensen meer kans op huidkanker en staar. Om gezamenlijk te proberen het ozongat niet groter te laten worden werd op 22 maart 1985 het Verdrag van Wenen aangenomen dat door 28 landen ondertekend. Op 16 september 1987 heeft dit geleid tot het opstellen van het Montrealprotocol (Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer). Het is geratificeerd door elke lidstaat van de Verenigde Naties (197); de Europese Unie\, alle 193 leden van de Verenigde Naties\, Vaticaanstad\, Cookeilanden en Niue. Het Montrealprotocol laat zien dat mondiaal afspraken maken over het milieubeleid duidelijk zin heeft. We moeten nog wel een tijd wachten voordat de ozonlaag helemaal hersteld is maar vermoedelijk zal tegen 2050 de ozonlaag hersteld zijn tot het niveau van 1960. Plak er nog een 20 tot 30 jaar aan vast en dan moet de ozonlaag toch praktisch hersteld zijn. DESCRIPTION:In dit Kenniscafé worden de ‘eeuwige chemicaliën’\, zoals PFAS\, en de invloed van synthetische stoffen op onze gezondheid en het ecosysteem onderzocht. \nWe leven in een wereld vol stoffen die door de mens zijn ontwikkeld\, maar die van oorsprong niet in de natuur voorkomen: denk aan plastics\, geneesmiddelen en industriële chemicaliën. Het zijn materialen die ons leven ingrijpend hebben veranderd\, maar die vaak zijn geïntroduceerd zonder dat goed bekend was hoe ze zich in het milieu zouden gedragen. Op dit moment liggen PFAS onder een vergrootglas: een groep moeilijk afbreekbare stoffen die voor allerlei doeleinden worden gebruikt. Ze zijn bijvoorbeeld ontworpen om regenkleding waterafstotend te maken en dienen als anti-aanbaklaag in pannen. Recent waarschuwde het RIVM nog voor het eten van eieren van hobbykippen vanwege te hoge PFAS-gehaltes\, die schadelijk kunnen zijn voor de gezondheid. Wat weten we van deze stoffen? Waarom zijn ze zo lastig uit onze omgeving te weren? En wat zegt dit over de manier waarop we in de toekomst met nieuwe chemische verbindingen moeten omgaan? Dit komt in de vormen van tentoonstellingen\, boeken\, lezingen\, rondleidingen en educatieve programma’s. \nDit is het thema van de Maand van de Geschiedenis 2025: ‘Natuurlijk‘. Zolang we ons kunnen herinneren\, proberen we in onze drang tot vooruitgang en een beter bestaan de natuur te beteugelen. Maar hoe houdbaar is onze relatie met de wereld om ons heen? En kan het ook anders? In een tijd waarin de verhoudingen tussen mens en planeet op scherp staan\, duiken wij de geschiedenis in. Wetenschap is overal en altijd om ons heen\, soms zonder dat we het doorhebben. Het is de basis van onze technologie\, de geneeskunde en onze kennis over de wereld om ons heen. Maar hoeveel weten we eigenlijk over de wetenschap achter ons dagelijks leven? DESCRIPTION:De Dag van de Leraar\, ook Dag van de Leerkracht(en) genoemd\, is een jaarlijks terugkerende  speciale dag om waardering te tonen voor onderwijzers. \nDe dag wordt gevierd in zo’n 88 landen wereldwijd. De datum is sinds 1962 verschillende keren veranderd\, waardoor de dag in verschillende landen op verschillende datums gevierd wordt. In onder andere België\, Duitsland\, Nederland en het Verenigd Koninkrijk valt de dag op 5 oktober. Op deze dag wordt de waardering van leerkrachten benadrukt en is er aandacht voor het onderwijs als belangrijke factor in de maatschappij. Dit kan soms gepaard gaan met vieringen om hen te eren voor hun speciale bijdrage in een specifiek domein\, of voor de gemeenschap in het algemeen. Er vinden verschillende evenementen plaats om de dag te markeren\, van lezingen en spreekbeurten tot theater. Het is voor veel scholen ook het moment om het onderwijzend personeel een bedankje te geven en hun leraren en leraressen in het zonnetje te zetten. Van scheurkalender en boekenbon tot een dagje uit worden er geschenken gegeven aan leraren en leraressen. DESCRIPTION:Ada Lovelace Day is an annual event held on the second Tuesday of October to celebrate and raise awareness of the contributions of women to Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, and Mathematics (STEM) fields\, it is named after mathematician and computer science pioneer Ada Lovelace. \nIt started in 2009 as a “day of blogging” and has since become a multi-national event with conferences. The day was founded in the United Kingdom in 2009 by Suw Charman-Anderson on the second Tuesday in October as a means of raising awareness about the contributions of women to STEM fields. In 2022\, Charman-Anderson announced that this would be the last year in which the organization that she founded\, Finding Ada\, would organize an annual flagship Ada Lovelace Day event in England. However\, the Royal Institution stepped in with funding and the organization Ada Lovelace Day has carried on. Since its inception\, Ada Lovelace Day has become international in scope\, with events organized by groups ranging from museums\, professional societies\, universities\, colleges and high schools. While Ada Lovelace Day is the second Tuesday of October\, events celebrating women in STEM typically span the period of October and November\, and include diverse activities ranging from in-person and virtual Wikipedia Editathons to panel discussions and film screenings. While this celebration of the often overlooked contributions of women in STEM was named for Ada Lovelace\, activities have expanded since 2009 to highlight the diverse contributions of women in STEM over time and different countries. Daarbij komen thema’s aan bod die niet alleen het hoger onderwijs en de wetenschap raken\, maar ook de samenleving en economie als geheel. Zo wordt er gesproken over de manier waarop onderzoeksfinanciering is ingericht en welke keuzes daarbij gemaakt moeten worden. Ook staat de vraag centraal hoe Nederland zijn innovatiekracht kan versterken om duurzame economische groei te realiseren. Daarnaast wordt stilgestaan bij de internationale concurrentie en de vraag hoe we talent kunnen behouden en aantrekken\, in samenhang met het Europese Meerjarig Financieel Kader.
