Namens miljoenen Nederlanders eist SDBN dat Adobe stopt met het verzamelen van persoonsgegevens via tracking cookies en via software in mobiele apps. Contact met het bedrijf heeft de afgelopen maanden niets opgeleverd en daarom stapt SDBN naar de rechter. SUMMARY:Protect Yourself From Meta’s Latest Attack on Privacy - publication
DESCRIPTION:Researchers recently caught Meta using an egregious new tracking technique to spy on you\, exploiting a technical loophole\, the company was able to have their apps snoop on users’ web browsing. \nThis tracking technique stands out for its flagrant disregard of core security protections built into phones and browsers. The episode is yet another reason to distrust Meta\, block web tracking\, and end surveillance advertising. Fortunately\, there are steps that you\, your browser\, and your government can take to fight online tracking: \nChoose a browser with better default privacy protections than Chrome. For example\, Brave and DuckDuckGo protected users from this tracking technique because they block Meta’s tracking pixel by default. Firefox only partially blocked the new tracking technique with its default settings\, but fully blocked it for users with “Enhanced Tracking Protection” set to “Strict.” \nIt’s also a good idea to avoid using in-app browsers. When you open links inside the Facebook or Instagram apps\, Meta can track you more easily than if you opened the same links in an external browser. \nReduce the number of ways your information can leak by deleting apps you don’t trust or don’t regularly use. Try opting for websites over apps when possible. In this case\, and many similar cases\, using the Facebook and Instagram website instead of the apps would have limited data collection. Even though both can contain tracking code\, apps can access information that websites generally can’t\, like a persistent “advertising ID” that companies use to track you (follow EFF’s instructions to turn it off if you haven’t already). \nEFF’s free browser extension blocks trackers to stop companies from spying on you online. Although Privacy Badger would’ve stopped Meta’s latest tracking technique by blocking their pixel\, Firefox for Android is the only mobile browser it currently supports. You can install Privacy Badger on Chrome\, Firefox\, and Edge on your desktop computer. \nMeta’s business model creates an incentive to collect as much information as possible about people to sell targeted ads. We’re aiming for a libre planet! Sounds familiar? Instead of hosting one LibrePlanet conference in 2025\, we’re planning a jam-packed anniversary year\, filled with several new and exciting activities! We’ll begin the anniversary year with an unprecedented memorabilia auction\, starting as a silent auction on March 17\, and culminating in a virtual live auction on March 23. By moving out of the FSF office\, we got to sort through all the fun and historically important memorabilia and selected the best ones. This is your chance to get your very own personal souvenir of the FSF\, from original GNU art to a famous katana and the very same VT220 that was standing on the FSF’s front desk\, and which people used to display ASCII art or to play free software games. \nLet’s claim the month of May as libre planet (or libre local) month! DESCRIPTION:Hundreds of computer researchers have signed an open letter calling for more careful public review of online age verification requirements and the privacy costs. \nSocial media is going the way of alcohol\, gambling\, and other social sins: Societies are deciding it’s no longer kid stuff. Lawmakers point to compulsive use\, exposure to harmful content\, and mounting concerns about adolescent mental health. So\, many propose to set a minimum age\, usually 13 or 16. In cases when regulators demand real enforcement rather than symbolic rules\, platforms run into a basic technical problem. The only way to prove that someone is old enough to use a site is to collect personal data about who they are. And the only way to prove that you checked is to keep the data indefinitely. Age-restriction laws push platforms toward intrusive verification systems that often directly conflict with modern data-privacy law. This is the age-verification trap. DESCRIPTION:Je gebruikt het voor de belastingaangifte\, om zorgdeclaraties in te dienen\, inschrijven voor je studie\, en nog veel meer: je Digitale Identiteit\, DigiD. \nNu is er een reële kans dat het in Nederland opgerichte bedrijf Solvinity\, dat de infrastructuur voor DigiD en MijnOverheid beheert\, in Amerikaanse handen komt. Hierover ontstond in november 2025 onrust in de Tweede Kamer: zijn onze privé-gegevens wel veilig? Een meerderheid van de partijen wil nu alles op alles zetten om een overname door het Amerikaanse IT-bedrijf Kyndryl te voorkomen. Op dit moment heeft het kabinet geen directe instrumenten om de overname tegen te houden. De situatie rond DigiD is exemplarisch voor de bredere discussie over de groeiende afhankelijkheid van Europese overheden van Amerikaanse techreuzen zoals Google en Microsoft. Onderzoeker digitale identificatiesystemen Maud Rebergen\, bespreekt in deze editie van Let’s Ask de onderliggende vragen. DESCRIPTION:In de aflevering ‘Zorgen over privacyschending: wat doen AIVD en MIVD op de kabel?‘ van de podcastserie ‘Schaduwoorlog‘ onderzoeken Annieke Kranenberg en Huib Modderkolk hoe de AIVD en MIVD opereren op onze digitale infrastructuur. \nNaar aanleiding van een kritisch jaarverslag van de Toetsingscommissie Inzet Bevoegdheden (TIB) bespreken zij het spanningsveld tussen nationale veiligheid en privacy. De commissie uit haar zorgen over het aftappen van glasvezelkabels\, waarbij de diensten de mogelijkheid hebben om ongericht grote hoeveelheden communicatie op te vangen. Hoewel de ‘Sleepwet’ na een referendum in 2018 werd aangepast om interceptie zo gericht mogelijk te maken\, blijkt uit de praktijk dat de diensten via centrale toegangspunten alsnog data van miljoenen burgers kunnen ophalen. Ondanks de inzet van meer personeel en data wijst de TIB erop dat deze bevoegdheid nog relatief weinig concrete inlichtingen oplevert. Tegelijkertijd pleiten de hoofden van de diensten juist voor ruimere wetgeving om effectiever te kunnen optreden tegen de hybride dreiging vanuit landen als Rusland en China. DESCRIPTION:Elke eerste donderdag van mei wordt World Password Day gevierd: een speciale dag uitgeroepen om het belang van sterke wachtwoorden te onderstrepen. \nHoe dan ook\, de noodzaak van sterke wachtwoorden is niet te onderschatten\, gezien de vele berichten over phishing\, ransomware en datalekken. Jim Cox van cybersecuritybedrijf Proofpoint deelt zijn tips met ons. Hij schreef ze speciaal voor thuiswerkers\, maar ze gelden net zo goed voor de particuliere gebruiker. \nTips voor wachtwoordbeheer\n• Wijzig wachtwoorden regelmatig en hergebruik ze nooit. Als je denkt dat er een kans is dat je data gevaar loopt\, neem deze voorzorgsmaatregel dan direct en stel je manager op de hoogte van het beveiligingsprobleem.\n• Schrijf nooit je wachtwoorden ergens op. Maar als je je wachtwoord dan toch moet opschrijven\, zorg er dan in ieder geval voor dat deze niet zichtbaar is.\n• Gebruik een wachtwoordmanager om willekeurige wachtwoorden te maken die veilig worden opgeslagen\, gecodeerd en toegankelijk zijn op alle persoonlijke apparaten. Dergelijke software is relatief eenvoudig te implementeren en beschikbaar als een cloud-gebaseerde dienst\, waardoor het een verstandige investering is voor bedrijven\n• Implementeer\, indien beschikbaar\, tweefactor-authenticatie op accounts en apparaten om apparaten verder te beveiligen.
