DESCRIPTION:Shell has made billions from the Groningen gas field\, and it came with a high cost on citizens:\n1\,600 earthquakes\, damaging thousands of homes and leaving entire communities traumatised. \nNow\, instead of paying compensation and repairing its mess\, Shell is suing the Dutch state for shutting down the gas field.🚨 This adds to a big web of litigation around Groningen. This is happening through Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) under the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT)\, a secretive arbitration process where powerful destructive companies can sue states and claim billions from them when they choose public interest over corporate profit. And who will bear the cost? Taxpayers. These arbitration cases by the big polluters are costing public money and dragging on a difficult situation for residents\, who are still waiting for repairs and justice.
