Op dit exclusieve feest viert schrijvend en uitgevend Nederland de start van de Boekenweek. De Boekenweek is ontstaan om zoveel mogelijk mensen te inspireren nieuwe boeken te kopen. Het is het mooiste en grootste jaarlijkse boekenfeest van Nederland\, waarbij we de liefde voor het boek vieren. Het doel en het belang van de Boekenweek staat\, na al die jaren\, nog steeds als een huis. Tijdens de Boekenweek worden lezers geïnspireerd met boekentips en activiteiten in boekhandel en bibliotheek. Consensus of niet\, systemen en politieke ambities sluiten niet helemaal op elkaar aan. Waar in de jaren vijftig de trein nog gepresenteerd werd als hét vervoermiddel dat Europeanen – letterlijk en figuurlijk – zou verbinden. Nu struikelt de treinreiziger nu over nationale belangen die niet altijd in lijn liggen met Europese spoorweg idealen en staat de drang naar efficiëntie en cijfers echte verbinding in de weg. At least 45% of the estimated 7000 languages spoken in the world are endangered. Only a few hundred languages have genuinely been given a place in education systems and the public domain\, and less than a hundred are used in the digital world. Multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages\, which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way. Multilingual and multicultural societies thrive through the preservation of their languages\, which serve as conduits for traditional knowledge and cultural heritage. However\, linguistic diversity faces increasing threats as more languages vanish. \nCurrently\, 40% of the global population lacks access to education in their native language\, a figure that exceeds 90% in certain regions. Research underscores the benefits of using learners’ native languages in education\, fostering better learning outcomes\, self-esteem\, and critical thinking skills. This approach also supports intergenerational learning and cultural preservation. International Mother Language Day\, first proclaimed by UNESCO and later adopted by the UN General Assembly\, underscores the role of languages in promoting inclusion and achieving Sustainable Development Goals. Multilingual education policies\, highlighted in the 2024 theme “Multilingual education – a pillar of learning and intergenerational learning”\, are crucial for inclusive education and the preservation of indigenous languages. By starting education in the learner’s mother tongue and gradually introducing other languages\, barriers between home and school are bridged\, facilitating effective learning. Multilingual education not only promotes inclusive societies but also aids in preserving non-dominant\, minority\, and indigenous languages. DESCRIPTION:World Radio Day is an observance day held annually on 13 February to celebrate radio as a medium. It was proclaimed on 3 November 2011 by UNESCO’s 36th General Conference after originally being proposed by the Kingdom of Spain. \nFollowing a request from the Spanish Radio Academy on 20 September 2010\, Spain proposed that the UNESCO Executive Board include an agenda item on the proclamation of a World Radio Day. UNESCO’s Executive Board approved the agenda item in its provisional agenda for the proclamation of a “World Radio Day” on 29 September 2011. UNESCO carried out a wide consultation in 2011 with diverse stakeholders\, such as broadcasting associations\, UN agencies\, funds and programmes\, relevant NGOs\, foundations and bilateral development agencies\, as well as UNESCO Permanent Delegations and National Commissions for UNESCO. Among the answers\, 91% were in favour of the project\, including official support from the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU)\, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)\, the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB)\, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU)\, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU)\, the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB)\, the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA)\, the Organización de Telecomunicaciones Ibeoramericanas (OTI)\, BBC\, URTI\, Vatican Radio\, etc. The results of this consultation are available in UNESCO’s document 187 EX/13. The Board recommended to the UNESCO 36th session of the General Conference that it proclaim a World Radio Day at its 36th session\, and that this day be celebrated by UNESCO on 13 February\, the anniversary of the day that the United Nations established the United Nations Radio in 1946. \nIt also invited all United Nations Member States\, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations\, professional associations and broadcasting unions\, as well as civil society\, including non-governmental organizations and individuals\, to duly celebrate World Radio Day\, in the way that each considers most adequate. The board further requested that UNESCO’s Director-General bring the resolution to the attention of the Secretary-General of the United Nations\, so that World Radio Day could be endorsed by the General Assembly and celebrated by the whole system. The matter was subsequently treated by UNESCO’s General Conference\, which adopted resolution contained in the file 36 C/63. World Radio Day was thus unanimously proclaimed by all Member States of UNESCO in November 2011. In December 2012\, The General Assembly of the UN endorsed the proclamation of World Radio Day\, thereby becoming a day to be celebrated by all UN agencies\, funds and programmes and their partners. DESCRIPTION:Op een festival is geen ruimte voor misdaad: sluit Israël\, net als Rusland\, uit van het Eurovisiesongfestival! \nHet is belangrijk dat wij vanuit Nederland het Eurovisiesongfestival boycotten omdat Israël zich profileert als Westers land wat zogenaamd ‘vrijer’ en ‘geciviliseerder’ zou zijn dan omliggende landen. Terwijl ze tegelijkertijd sinds 7 oktober meer dan 25.000 doden op hun geweten hebben\, en sinds 1947 nog ontelbaar meer. Zolang we doen alsof dit een doorsnee land is dat gewoon mee mag doen aan ‘niet-politieke’ zangwedstrijden\, kan Israël zich ook zo kan blijven profileren. Dit geeft op zijn beurt weer de indruk aan het publiek van het Eurovisiesongfestival dat Israël ‘een land zoals dat van hen’ is\, en dus deze genocidale daden niet op hun geweten kan hebben. Daarnaast wekt deelname aan het Eurovisiesongfestival\, wat breed gewaardeerd wordt binnen de LHBTQIA+ gemeenschap\, de indruk dat Israël queervriendelijk is. Dit signaleert dat Israël progressieve waarden zou onderschrijven. Maar als queer koppel kun je niet trouwen in Israël\, en de staat roeit nu alle queer personen in Palestina actief uit. Dat zijn geen progressieve waarden\, dat is pinkwashing. We moeten stoppen met Israël legitimiteit verlenen. AvroTros moet hierin hun verantwoordelijkheid nemen door het Eurovisiesongfestival te boycotten\, totdat Israël ervan wordt geweerd. DESCRIPTION:Groundhog Day (bosmarmottendag) is een feestdag die in de Verenigde Staten en Canada elk jaar op 2 februari wordt gevierd.\n\nOp deze dag zou de bosmarmot (Engels: groundhog) volgens folklore ontwaken uit zijn winterslaap en zich buiten zijn hol wagen. Volgens de traditie zou de bosmarmot het einde van de winter kunnen voorspellen op grond van zijn eigen schaduw. Als de bosmarmot op Groundhog Day zijn eigen schaduw ziet\, zal hij terugkeren naar zijn hol en zal de winter nog zes weken duren. Mocht hij zijn schaduw niet zien en niet terugkeren naar zijn hol\, is het einde van de winter nabij. In veel plaatsjes wordt Groundhog Day gevierd met festivals waar mensen heenkomen om de bosmarmot te zien ontwaken. In onder andere Pennsylvania wordt Groundhog Day gevierd met zogenaamde fersommlinge; sociale evenementen waarbij eten wordt geserveerd\, toespraken worden gehouden\, en spellen worden georganiseerd. De grootste viering van Groundhog Day vindt plaats in Punxsutawney\, waar regelmatig tot 40.000 mensen op afkomen. De feestdag kreeg ook buiten Noord-Amerika meer bekendheid dankzij de komische film Groundhog Day uit 1993\, waarin het personage gespeeld door Bill Murray elke dag\, uitgerekend deze feestdag waar hij de grootste hekel aan heeft\, opnieuw beleeft. Om onze bezorgdheid kracht bij te zetten\, vragen de bezorgde musicus en muziekliefhebbers de organisatoren van het evenement om: \n1. Grondig de ethische implicaties van de deelname van Israël te overwegen\, rekening houdend met de lopende gebeurtenissen en internationale veroordelingen. \n2. Wat wordt nu precies bedoeld met een puzzel? Een puzzel is een probleem of enigma dat de vindingrijkheid van de oplosser test. In een eenvoudige puzzel is het de bedoeling om stukken op een logische manier samen te stellen om tot de gewenste oplossing te komen. Puzzels kunnen ook letters\, cijfers\, vormen en raadsels bevatten. De eerste legpuzzel ontstond rond 1760\, toen John Spilsbury\, een Britse graveur en kaartenmaker\, een kaart op een vel hout legde die hij vervolgens rond elk afzonderlijk land verzaagde. Spilsbury gebruikte het product om aardrijkskunde te onderwijzen. DESCRIPTION:Het International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is het grootste filmfestival van Nederland\, het wordt sinds 1972 jaarlijks in Rotterdam gehouden. \nSinds 2017 worden films getoond in Pathé Schouwburgplein\, Kino\, Cinerama\, LantarenVenster\, het Oude Luxor\, de Schouwburg\, De Doelen en Worm. Elk jaar gaat eind januari in Rotterdam het gros van de films in première die gedurende de rest van het jaar in Nederland te zien zullen zijn. Ook zijn er vele korte en lange films uit alle delen van de wereld te zien die buiten het festival niet meer in Nederland vertoond worden. Centraal staan de kleinere\, onafhankelijke en artistieke films van vaak weinig bekende regisseurs\, alhoewel de ‘betere’ Hollywoodfilm niet geschuwd wordt. Er zijn programmaonderdelen rond producties die zijn gefinancierd door het Hubert Bals Fonds\, retrospectieven van de ‘Filmmakers in Focus’\, forumdiscussies\, tentoonstellingen van videokunst\, enzovoort. Daarnaast is er tijdens het festival de CineMart waar filmmakers in contact kunnen komen met financiers. DESCRIPTION:Opposite Day is a make believe game usually played by children\, the game has also been compared to a children’s “philosophy course”. \nConceptually\, Opposite Day is a holiday where things are said and done in an opposite manner. It is not a holiday on any calendar and therefore one can declare that any day of the year is Opposite Day (sometimes retroactively) to indicate something which will be said\, or has just been said should be understood opposite to its original meaning (similar to the practice of crossed fingers to automatically nullify promises). Although not an “official” holiday\, it has recently become commonplace to celebrate Opposite Day (or Opposites Day) on January 25th of each year. An analysis of this concept would conclude that Opposite day causes a self-referential paradox. In theory\, the statement “it is opposite day”\, if uttered on opposite day\, should mean “it is not opposite day”. However\, the statement “it is not opposite day” also does not clearly communicate the meaning of “it is opposite day”\, since it must first be communicated that it is opposite day before the statement can be interpreted this way. Therefore\, there is no unambiguous way to communicate that the current day is opposite day. DESCRIPTION:De Avondshow met Arjen Lubach is een latenight satirisch nieuws- en praatprogramma van de VPRO op NPO 1 gepresenteerd door Arjen Lubach\, en de opvolger van Zondag met Lubach. \nDe dagelijkse latenighttalkshow wordt iedere week van maandag tot en met donderdag tussen 17:30 en 19:30 opgenomen en rond 22:10 op dezelfde dag uitgezonden. In elke uitzending behandelt Lubach het dagelijkse nieuws op een satirische wijze. DESCRIPTION:Knuffeldag / Hugging Day is een jaarlijks terugkerende feestdag rond het thema knuffelen.\n\nDe allereerste “knuffeldag” werd in 1986 gehouden op initiatief van psychologie student en dominee Kevin Zaborney uit Michigan (USA). Tijdens zijn studie psychologie aan de Universiteit van Michigan besefte hij dat er geen speciale dag was om stil te staan bij de kracht die van een knuffel uitgaat. Zijn oorspronkelijke idee achter knuffeldag is iedereen aan te moedigen om familie en vrienden vaker te knuffelen. Leuke bijkomstigheid: als we iemand een knuffel geven\, komt het gelukshormoon oxytocine vrij. Dit “knuffelhormoon” verhoogt het gevoel van verbondenheid\, vermindert stress en maakt je tevredener en kalmer\, de perfecte manier om Blue Monday te bestrijden! In verband met het huidige #MeToo klimaat is echter voorzichtigheid aan te raden! \nDe voordelen van knuffelen/omhelzen: \n\neen omhelzing maakt ons een blij! wanneer we iemand omhelzen komt het gelukshormoon (oxytocine) vrij\nomhelzingen verlichten stress! het cortisolgehalte wordt hierdoor lager (cortisol=stresshormoon)\nomhelzingen zijn voor baby’s net zo onontbeerlijk als water en voedsel\nleerlingen die door een leraar op een gepaste wijze worden aangeraakt zullen eerder vrijwilligerswerk doen\neen omhelzing per dag houdt de dokter weg! de thymusklier wordt gestimuleerd (aanmaak witte bloedcellen)\neen knuffelend hart is een gezond hart! (betere doorbloeding en lagere cortisolgehaltes)\nstellen die elkaar veel knuffelen hebben een hoger oxytocinegehalte\n\nLinks:\nHugging Day

SUMMARY:Sundance Film Festival 2024
DESCRIPTION:The Sundance Film Festival (formerly Utah/US Film Festival\, then US Film and Video Festival) is an annual film festival organized by the Sundance Institute. \nIt is the largest independent film festival in the United States\, it takes place each January in Park City\, Utah; Salt Lake City\, Utah; and at the Sundance Resort (a ski resort near Provo\, Utah)\, and acts as a showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers. The festival consists of competitive sections for American and international dramatic and documentary films\, both feature films and short films\, and a group of out-of-competition sections\, including NEXT\, New Frontier\, Spotlight\, Midnight\, Sundance Kids\, From the Collection\, Premieres\, and Documentary Premieres. Many films premiering at Sundance have gone on to be nominated and win Oscars such as Best Picture\, Best Director and Best Actor in a Leading Role.
