DESCRIPTION:De Boekenweek is een sinds 1932 jaarlijks terugkerende twaalfdaags evenement in maart ter promotie van het (Nederlandstalige) boek. \nSinds 1932 is de Boekenweek hét jaarlijkse feest van het boek dat gevierd wordt in en met boekhandels\, uitgeverijen\, auteurs\, bibliotheken en de media. De Boekenweek wordt georganiseerd door Stichting Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (CPNB). Aan de vooravond van de Boekenweek vindt het traditionele Boekenbal plaats. Op dit exclusieve feest viert schrijvend en uitgevend Nederland de start van de Boekenweek. De Boekenweek is ontstaan om zoveel mogelijk mensen te inspireren nieuwe boeken te kopen. Het is het mooiste en grootste jaarlijkse boekenfeest van Nederland\, waarbij we de liefde voor het boek vieren. Het doel en het belang van de Boekenweek staat\, na al die jaren\, nog steeds als een huis. Tijdens de Boekenweek worden lezers geïnspireerd met boekentips en activiteiten in boekhandel en bibliotheek. \nMet het thema ‘Mijn generatie‘ wordt de rode loper uitgerold voor elke generatie. De Boekenweek 2026 gaat over boeken\, verhalen en taal die laten zien hoe generaties gevormd worden. SUMMARY:IJf Blokker - sterfdag (2026)
DESCRIPTION:IJf Blokker (Den Helder\, *2 september 1930). Nederlands drummer\, acteur\, zanger\, komiek\, presentator en stripauteur\, overleed op 10 maart 2026 op 95-jarige leeftijd na een korte periode van afnemende gezondheid. \nHij begon zijn carrière als drummer. Blokker kreeg een opleiding aan de Muziekschool en oefende dit beroep uit van 1948 tot 1973. Hij had vaste engagementen bij diverse orkesten\, werkte drie jaar in West-Duitsland\, zes jaar bij de Sleeswijk Revue en nog eens drie jaar in het orkest bij Ted de Braak. Hij gaf ook drumles aan Jan Keizer van de band BZN. Hij kreeg in 1971 bekendheid door de rol van Barend Servet in het televisieprogramma De Fred Haché Show\, met het gevolg dat er een jaar later een Barend Servet Show kwam\, die liep van 1972 tot 1973. Deze programma’s\, bedacht\, geschreven\, samengesteld en geregisseerd door Wim van der Linden\, Wim T. Schippers\, Gied Jaspars en Ruud van Hemert en uitgezonden op de Nederlandse televisie door de VPRO\, veroorzaakten nogal wat ophef door blote danseressen en andere figuranten\, gevloek en absurde humor. In de programma’s liet hij een aantal kreten regelmatig horen\, zoals “Pollens! Ik word een peu nerveu!” en “Verdomd interessant\, maar gaat u verder…” \nEen sketch in het tv-programma Barend is weer bezig\, eind 1972\, deed in Nederland veel stof opwaaien. Daarin “interviewde” hij een vrouw die koningin Juliana moest voorstellen. Terwijl deze spruitjes zat te schillen\, vroeg hij haar dingen als: “Aan welke kant zal u staan als morgen de republiek uitbreekt?” Het kwam de VPRO op een officiële berisping te staan en Blokker werd telefonisch bedreigd met ontvoering en marteling. In zijn laatste jaren werd hij niet graag aan het typetje Barend Servet herinnerd. Als Barend Servet haalde Blokker in 1973 de Veronica Top 40 en de Daverende 30 met het nummer Waar moet dat heen\, hoe zal dat gaan? Andere singles waren Tok tok tok\, Hoe kan dat nou\, Mijn thee en ABC. Vanaf 1987 tot aan 1991 speelde Blokker de rol van Meneer Smit in de kinderserie Mevrouw Ten Kate. De serie werd uitgezonden op zondagochtend in het jeugdblok van de VPRO dat toen nog geen Villa Achterwerk heette. Ook speelde Blokker mee in de op de televisieserie gebaseerde film Mevrouw Ten Kate en het beest in de mens. Hierin opnieuw in de rol van Meneer Smit. Als acteur ging hij meewerken aan hoorspelen\, de tv-taalcursus Ik heb u lief\, mijn Nederlands en nasynchronisaties. \nOok was hij te zien in bijrollen in Zeg ‘ns Aaa\, SamSam\, In voor- en tegenspoed\, Pompy de Robodoll\, Seth & Fiona en Filmpje!. In een televisiebewerking uit 1990 van het toneelstuk Eva Bonheur van Herman Heijermans speelde Blokker de rol van effectenmakelaar Mijpel. Tussen 1982 en 1988 speelde hij achtereenvolgens in zes theaterproducties bij de familie Nooy: De Jantjes\, De Jordaan\, Hadjememaar\, In Holland Staat Een Huis\, Boefje en Heimwee. En in seizoen 1991/1992 speelde hij met Peter Faber en Petra Laseur in het bekroonde Het Koekoeksnest. In de seizoenen 1980/1981 en 1982/1983 presenteerde hij voor de televisie het VPRO-natuurprogramma Puur natuur. In 1987 was Blokker de commentaarstem bij het AVRO-televisieprogramma Prijs je rijk met Fred Oster als presentator. Multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages\, which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way. However\, linguistic diversity faces increasing threats as more languages vanish. The 25th anniversary of International Mother Language Day celebrates a quarter-century of efforts to preserve linguistic diversity and promote mother tongues. This milestone emphasizes the importance of language preservation in safeguarding cultural heritage\, improving education\, and fostering more peaceful societies. \nCurrently\, 40% of the global population lacks access to education in their native language\, a figure that exceeds 90% in certain regions. Research underscores the benefits of using learners’ native languages in education\, fostering better learning outcomes\, self-esteem\, and critical thinking skills. This approach also supports intergenerational learning and cultural preservation. International Mother Language Day\, first proclaimed by UNESCO and later adopted by the UN General Assembly\, underscores the role of languages in promoting inclusion and achieving Sustainable Development Goals. 2025 theme: Silver Jubilee Celebration of International Mother Language Day. DESCRIPTION:World Radio Day is an observance day held annually on 13 February to celebrate radio as a medium. It was proclaimed on 3 November 2011 by UNESCO’s 36th General Conference after originally being proposed by the Kingdom of Spain. \nFollowing a request from the Spanish Radio Academy on 20 September 2010\, Spain proposed that the UNESCO Executive Board include an agenda item on the proclamation of a World Radio Day. UNESCO’s Executive Board approved the agenda item in its provisional agenda for the proclamation of a “World Radio Day” on 29 September 2011. UNESCO carried out a wide consultation in 2011 with diverse stakeholders\, such as broadcasting associations\, UN agencies\, funds and programmes\, relevant NGOs\, foundations and bilateral development agencies\, as well as UNESCO Permanent Delegations and National Commissions for UNESCO. Among the answers\, 91% were in favour of the project\, including official support from the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU)\, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)\, the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB)\, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU)\, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU)\, the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB)\, the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA)\, the Organización de Telecomunicaciones Ibeoramericanas (OTI)\, BBC\, URTI\, Vatican Radio\, etc. The results of this consultation are available in UNESCO’s document 187 EX/13. The Board recommended to the UNESCO 36th session of the General Conference that it proclaim a World Radio Day at its 36th session\, and that this day be celebrated by UNESCO on 13 February\, the anniversary of the day that the United Nations established the United Nations Radio in 1946. \nIt also invited all United Nations Member States\, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations\, professional associations and broadcasting unions\, as well as civil society\, including non-governmental organizations and individuals\, to duly celebrate World Radio Day\, in the way that each considers most adequate. The board further requested that UNESCO’s Director-General bring the resolution to the attention of the Secretary-General of the United Nations\, so that World Radio Day could be endorsed by the General Assembly and celebrated by the whole system. The matter was subsequently treated by UNESCO’s General Conference\, which adopted resolution contained in the file 36 C/63. World Radio Day was thus unanimously proclaimed by all Member States of UNESCO in November 2011. In December 2012\, The General Assembly of the UN endorsed the proclamation of World Radio Day\, thereby becoming a day to be celebrated by all UN agencies\, funds and programmes and their partners. DESCRIPTION:Vrijdag de dertiende wordt door veel mensen als een ongeluksdag beschouwd\, wegens de combinatie van vrijdag en dertien. \nEr is een reeks speculatieve verklaringen voor vrijdag de dertiende als ongeluksdag\, maar deze berusten gewoonlijk op interpretatie achteraf: \n\nDe oudste gebeurtenis die in de joods–christelijke traditie naar onheil op vrijdag de dertiende zou verwijzen is de tiende plaag van Egypte.\nHet allereerste Pascha was gepland op een sjabbat\, zaterdag de 14e Nisan. Die sabbat begint echter op vrijdagmiddag 18:00 en omvat in de westerse tijdsopvatting de nacht van vrijdag de 13e. In de joodse tijdsopvatting eindigde de dag echter met de avond\, zodat de vrijdag er niets mee te maken had. Volgens het Bijbelboek Exodus stierven in die nacht alle eerstgeborenen van mens en dier.\nEen andere verklaring is dat vrijdag de dag is waarop Jezus werd gekruisigd. Als die dag dan ook nog samenvalt met het ongeluksgetal 13\, moet deze dag volgens het volksgeloof extra ongeluk veroorzaken.\nDe vrijdagen kunnen ook een kwade naam gekregen hebben omdat de Romeinen op die dag door doodvonnissen voltrokken. Ook in Engeland werd de doodstraf op een vrijdag voltrokken.\nDat ‘dertien’ een negatieve klank had in de christelijke wereld is sinds de zeventiende eeuw mogelijk terug te brengen tot het Laatste Avondmaal van Christus\, waar dertien personen aanzaten. Wat volgde was het verraad door het vertrek van een dertiende persoon (Judas) en daarna de kruisiging van Christus. In het christendom is twaalf sowieso het getal van de perfectie\, denk aan de twaalf stammen van Israël\, de twaalf discipelen en 144.000 uitverkorenen (12×12). Twaalf plus één betekent dan: imperfectie of ongeluk.\n\n\nKlik op afbeelding voor origineel\n\nEen andere mogelijke verklaring is dat op vrijdag de dertiende oktober 1307 in Frankrijk alle Tempeliers op bevel van Philips de Schone werden gearresteerd\, op grond van valse beschuldigingen. Dit was de opmaat voor de uiteindelijke vernietiging van de Orde van de Arme Ridders van Christus en de Tempel van Salomo\, beter bekend als de Tempeliers. Sindsdien is men vrijdag de dertiende blijven zien als ongeluksdag.\nEr wordt ook wel gesteld dat vrijdag de dertiende is afgeleid van een Noorse sage. DESCRIPTION:De Nationale Voorleesdagen worden jaarlijks gehouden door de CPNB georganiseerd op initiatief van Stichting Lezen\, om het voorlezen te stimuleren aan jonge kinderen van 0 tot 6 jaar\, die zelf nog niet kunnen lezen of net het lezen hebben geleerd. \nIeder jaar wordt naast het Prentenboek van het Jaar ook de Prentenboeken Top Tien gekozen. De uitverkoren prentenboeken staan centraal in de activiteiten die tijdens De Nationale Voorleesdagen worden georganiseerd. Het doel van de campagne is om bij het publiek het belang van voorlezen onder de aandacht te brengen: voorlezen ontwikkelt gevoel voor taal\, liefde voor boeken en een sterkere band tussen volwassene en kind. Vandaar dat vanaf 2019 de campagne de boodschap uitdraagt voorlezen maakt je leuker! De campagne moet ervoor zorgen dat (groot)ouders en verzorgers het voorlezen tot een dagelijks ritueel maken. Jaarlijks worden bekende Nederlanders uitgenodigd om voor te lezen tijdens Het Nationale Voorleesontbijt om te laten zien dat ook zij voorlezen belangrijk vinden. DESCRIPTION:De bron van de Dag van de Rare Loopjes (The International Day of Silly Walks) ligt bij het Engelse Ministry of Silly Walks\, is een sketch uit aflevering 14 van Monty Python’s Flying Circus\, getiteld Face the Press\, voor het eerst uitgezonden in 1970 met John Cleese in de hoofdrol. \nDe sketch begint in een boekwinkel in Londen\, waar twee klanten staan. John Cleese komt binnen\, gekleed in zwart City-kostuum met bolhoed. Hij koopt The Times\, en maakt bij het weggaan een enigszins militaire draai\, gevolgd door grote\, slungelige passen. De camera volgt hem op straat\, en Cleese draait\, zwaait en loopt gehurkt. Hij gaat een gebouw binnen\, en de camera toont het bordje op het ijzeren hek: “The Ministry of Silly Walks”. In de gang zien we nog drie mensen met een raar loopje passeren. Binnen presenteert ene Mr. Putey (Michael Palin) zijn loopje in ontwikkeling (walk in progress)\, maar het blijkt eigenlijk niet zo erg raar te zijn. De ambtenaar vertelt Putey dat hij niet gelooft dat het ministerie hem kan helpen omdat zijn loop niet raar genoeg is\, en het budget is klein (“Maar met subsidie kan ik hem nog veel raarder maken!”\, zegt Putey nog). De regering\, zo legt hij uit\, behoort evenveel uit te geven aan Defensie\, Sociale zekerheid\, Gezondheidszorg\, Huisvesting\, Onderwijs\, en Rare loopjes ( Defence\, Social Security\, Health\, Housing\, Education\, and Silly Walks)\, maar heeft onlangs nog minder uitgegeven aan rare loopjes dan aan defensie. De ambtenaar legt later uit dat Mr. Putey misschien aan het Anglo-Franse rare loopje\, Le Marche Futile (een overduidelijke parodie op de ontwikkeling van de Concorde)\, kan werken. Many of the Christmas Lectures were published. On the 200-year anniversary of the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures\, the 2025 Lectures will see leading space scientist Dame Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock take audiences on an epic voyage through time and space. Joined by a host of very special guests – from astronauts to history-making astronomers – Maggie will explore the extraordinary breakthroughs that have revolutionised our understanding of the universe\, enabling us to see ever further into space\, and ever further back in time. Maggie helped develop the James Webb Telescope\, the most powerful space telescope ever created – which launched on Christmas day 2021 before travelling a million miles to begin its orbit of the sun. Unpacking James Webb’s latest breathtaking images\, Maggie will reveal how this “time-travelling” telescope is now rewriting the story of the Big Bang and allowing us to witness the birth of the first stars and galaxies that followed. \nAs NASA prepares to return humans to the moon for the first time since 1972\, Maggie will investigate how manned spaceflight has transformed our relationship with our nearest neighbour – and with our home planet. DESCRIPTION:The festivus pole\nFestivus (/ˈfɛstɪvəs/) is a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 as an alternative to the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season. Originally created by author Daniel O’Keefe\, Festivus entered popular culture after it was made the focus of the 1997 Seinfeld episode “The Strike“\, which O’Keefe’s son\, Dan O’Keefe\, co-wrote. \nThe non-commercial holiday’s celebration\, as depicted on Seinfeld\, occurs on December 23 and includes a Festivus dinner\, an unadorned aluminum Festivus pole\, practices such as the “airing of grievances” and “feats of strength”\, and the labeling of easily explainable events as “Festivus miracles”. The episode refers to it as “a Festivus for the rest of us”. It has been described both as a parody holiday festival and as a form of playful consumer resistance. Journalist Allen Salkin describes it as “the perfect secular theme for an all-inclusive December gathering”. \nLinks:\nHappy Festivus… for the Rest of Us!

DESCRIPTION:Dalek remembrance is on the 21 December every year\, this date was chosen because on the 21 December 1963\, the Daleks (/ˈdɑːlɪks/ (listen) DAH-leks) first made their appearence on screen and into history. \nThe Daleks are a fictional extraterrestrial race of mutants principally portrayed in the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who. The Daleks were conceived by science-fiction writer Terry Nation and first appeared in the 1963 Doctor Who serial The Daleks\, in shells designed by Raymond Cusick. Drawing inspiration from the Nazis\, Nation portrayed the Daleks as violent\, merciless and pitiless cyborg aliens\, who demand total conformity to their will and are bent on the conquest of the universe and the extermination of what they see as inferior races. Collectively they are the greatest enemies of Doctor Who’s protagonist\, the Time Lord known as “the Doctor.” During the second year of the original Doctor Who programme (1963-1989)\, the Daleks developed their own form of time travel. In the beginning of the second Doctor Who TV series that debuted in 2005\, it was established that the Daleks had engaged in a Time War against the Time Lords that affected much of the universe and altered parts of history. \nIn the programme’s narrative\, the planet Skaro suffered a thousand-year war between two societies: the Kaleds and the Thals. During this time-period\, many natives of Skaro became badly mutated by fallout from nuclear weapons and chemical warfare. The Kaled government believed in genetic purity and swore to “exterminate the Thals” for being inferior. Believing his own society was becoming weak and that it was his duty to create a new master race from the ashes of his people\, the Kaled scientist Davros genetically modified several Kaleds into squid-like life-forms he called Daleks\, removing “weaknesses” such as mercy and sympathy while increasing aggression and survival-instinct. He then integrated them with tank-like robotic shells equipped with advanced technology based on the same life-support system he himself used since being burned and blinded by a nuclear attack. His creations became intent on dominating the universe by enslaving or purging all “inferior” non-Dalek life. The Daleks are the show’s most popular and famous villains and their returns to the series over the decades have often gained media attention. Their frequent declaration “Exterminate!” has become common usage.
