DESCRIPTION:The Health for All Film Festival (HAFF) has its online awards ceremony every year between May and June. \nIt is an opportunity to meet the winners and converse with the film producers\, the HAFF jury\, and global health experts. This dialogue continues throughout the years with more precise panel discussions recorded and available for health promotion and health education activities. In-person screenings of some of our winning and selected films have been organized by various World Health Organization (WHO) Offices and by several of the WHO HAFF institutional partners from a growing network. These events represent additional opportunities for this educational dialogue between filmmakers and health experts\, building up our global movement for positive behavior changes through films. In April and May 2024\, HAFF releases its new official selection published on WHO’s YouTube channel. The HAFF website presents the list of selected titles for each category of the competition with some keywords to ease your choice of films to watch. This strategic timing allows you all to actively engage with the shortlisted films. You are encouraged to view and comment on your favourite films and to champion them on social media using the hashtag #Film4Health. \nWHO hopes that numerous people will spread the word about this opportunity to interact with health stories. DESCRIPTION:First Contact Day is a holiday celebrated in the Federation on April 5\, marking the anniversaries of the flight of the Phoenix and of first contact between Humans and Vulcans on April 5th\, 2063 in Bozeman\, Montana. \nThe holiday also shares the same date as the Day of Honor in the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Republic’s Republic Day. While not a major holiday\, Naomi Wildman and Neelix planned an elaborate celebration aboard the USS Voyager in 2377\, including cheese pierogies\, rock and roll music\, and a reenactment of the historic first contact by Lieutenant Commander Tuvok. The day often meant a day off from school for Federation youth. (VOY episode: “Homestead”\, ST website: Startrek.com). In 2381\, Admiral Leonard James Akaar planned to have the USS Titan relaunched on First Contact Day\, as part of a morale-boosting effort following the Borg Invasion earlier that year. On Earth\, children were given a day off from school\, a fact that Captain Kathryn Janeway remembered was really the only way it was celebrated. \nNaomi Wildman and Neelix planned the 315th observation of the event aboard the USS Voyager. The festivities included Zefram Cochrane’s favorite food\, cheese pierogies\, and rock and roll music on Tom Paris’s jukebox. Focus is de crossmediale titel van het platform NTR Wetenschap. Naast het tv-programma is er de Focus-podcast die wordt gepresenteerd door Lara Billie Rense. Het platform heeft een YouTube-kanaal en is actief op Facebook\, X\, LinkedIn\, Instagram en TikTok. \nGeluidshinder is oorzaak van veel gezondheidsklachten. Ondanks maatregelen als geluidsschermen\, woningisolatie en stillere motoren lukt het niet om geluidshinder substantieel te verminderen. Hoe kan dat? Wetenschappers zoeken naar antwoorden. Bij de TU Delft onderzoekt men de invloed van de visuele omgeving bij geluid. Hoe we horen blijkt deels te worden bepaald door wat we zien. Zij kwam voor het eerst echt op in de 6e eeuw voor de Gregoriaanse jaartelling. Een beoefenaar van de filosofie wordt een filosoof of wijsgeer genoemd. In het dagelijks spraakgebruik wordt de term filosofie gebruikt om elke vorm van wijsheid of levensbeschouwing aan te duiden (zoals in “iemands filosofie”) of iemands uitgangspunten (zoals in “het sluit niet aan op de filosofie achter dit plan”). DESCRIPTION:Een 1 aprilgrap (ook wel aprilgrap of aprilvis genoemd) is een traditie waarbij mensen elkaar op 1 april voor de gek proberen te houden. \nIn Frankrijk spreekt men van poisson d’avril (Aprilvis). In Engelstalige landen wordt de dag April Fools’ Day (April dwazendag) genoemd\, en de Russen hebben het over День Дурака (Den Doeraka\, dag van de dommerik). In sommige Vlaamse streken spreekt men over verzenderke(n)sdag\, de dag waarop je iedereen tracht ergens heen te zenden om ze beet te nemen. Door de strijd tegen fake news worden 1 aprilgrappen wereldwijd minder populair\, onder andere de VRT heeft aangegeven dit niet meer te doen. Uit sommige bronnen blijkt dat de bijzondere betekenis van 1 april ontstaan is bij de Franse wijziging naar de gregoriaanse kalender\, zoals opgedragen door Paus Gregorius XIII in 1582. Voor die tijd werd Nieuwjaar gevierd van 25 maart tot 1 april. Met de verandering van het kalendersysteem werd Nieuwjaar verplaatst naar 1 januari. Mensen die dit vergaten of die het nieuwe kalendersysteem weigerden te aanvaarden\, kregen uitnodigingen voor niet-gehouden feestjes\, grappige presentjes enzovoort. Deze verklaring is echter onwaarschijnlijk: de 1 aprilgrap wordt namelijk al eerder vermeld in een Franse bron uit 1508\, dus ruim voor die tijd. De eerste vermelding in een Nederlandstalige bron dateert uit ca. 1560 te Brugge\, een gedicht van de rederijker Eduard de Dene. Het is een parodie op ‘1 april’ waarin een knecht het plan van zijn heer om hem te verzenden\, doorziet. De geschiedenis gaat dus ten minste terug tot het begin van de zestiende eeuw. \nDe wijde verspreiding van het verschijnsel wijst echter op een oudere oorsprong. De 1 aprilgrap is volgens een andere theorie ontstaan uit een vroeger middeleeuws festival: het feest van de zotten. La fête des fous was vooral in Frankrijk van de 5e tot de 16e eeuw erg populair. Het werd gevierd omstreeks 1 januari door het kiezen van een valse paus of bisschop en ging gepaard met allerlei rituelen en festiviteiten waarbij de geestelijkheid werd geparodieerd. Aan de basis hiervan lagen dan weer naar alle waarschijnlijkheid vroegere heidense saturnalia. Er zijn verklaringen gezocht in het wisselvallige aprilweer en parallellen gezien met de Germaanse mythologie (Loki) en met de Bijbelse geschiedenis. In verschillende landen zijn ook wel nationale gebeurtenissen aangevoerd als begin van de traditie. Deze verklaringen\, die waarschijnlijk ooit zelf als aprilgrap zijn verzonnen\, leiden soms tot op de dag van vandaag een hardnekkig leven. Zo denkt men in Nederland nog vaak dat de grappenmakerij begonnen is met de inname van Den Briel door de watergeuzen op 1 april 1572\, zoals blijkt uit een bekend gezegde: Op 1 april verloor Alva zijn bril. DESCRIPTION:De Bed-In was een pacifistische protestactie van John Lennon en Yoko Ono tegen de Vietnamoorlog\, die zij twee keer hielden: een keer in Amsterdam en een keer in Montreal. \nVan 25 tot 31 maart 1969 hielden Lennon en Ono hun eerste Bed-In in suite 702 van het Hiltonhotel in Amsterdam. Even daarvoor waren ze getrouwd en ze dachten met deze actie de aandacht die hun huwelijk trok te kunnen aanwenden voor de bevordering van de wereldvrede. In het Amsterdamse Hilton bracht het jonge paar inderdaad de gehele tijd door in bed\, waarbij de pers aanwezig was. ‘Hair Peace’ en ‘Bed Peace’\, die protestleuzen sierden de ramen van de kamer. In bed lagen die week John Lennon en Yoko Ono\, om een week lang te praten over vrede en de toenmalige oorlog in Vietnam. Only a few hundred languages have genuinely been given a place in education systems and the public domain\, and less than a hundred are used in the digital world. Multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages\, which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way. Multilingual and multicultural societies thrive through the preservation of their languages\, which serve as conduits for traditional knowledge and cultural heritage. However\, linguistic diversity faces increasing threats as more languages vanish. \nCurrently\, 40% of the global population lacks access to education in their native language\, a figure that exceeds 90% in certain regions. Research underscores the benefits of using learners’ native languages in education\, fostering better learning outcomes\, self-esteem\, and critical thinking skills. This approach also supports intergenerational learning and cultural preservation. International Mother Language Day\, first proclaimed by UNESCO and later adopted by the UN General Assembly\, underscores the role of languages in promoting inclusion and achieving Sustainable Development Goals. Multilingual education policies\, highlighted in the 2024 theme “Multilingual education – a pillar of learning and intergenerational learning”\, are crucial for inclusive education and the preservation of indigenous languages. It was proclaimed on 3 November 2011 by UNESCO’s 36th General Conference after originally being proposed by the Kingdom of Spain. \nFollowing a request from the Spanish Radio Academy on 20 September 2010\, Spain proposed that the UNESCO Executive Board include an agenda item on the proclamation of a World Radio Day. UNESCO’s Executive Board approved the agenda item in its provisional agenda for the proclamation of a “World Radio Day” on 29 September 2011. UNESCO carried out a wide consultation in 2011 with diverse stakeholders\, such as broadcasting associations\, UN agencies\, funds and programmes\, relevant NGOs\, foundations and bilateral development agencies\, as well as UNESCO Permanent Delegations and National Commissions for UNESCO. Among the answers\, 91% were in favour of the project\, including official support from the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU)\, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)\, the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB)\, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU)\, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU)\, the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB)\, the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA)\, the Organización de Telecomunicaciones Ibeoramericanas (OTI)\, BBC\, URTI\, Vatican Radio\, etc. The results of this consultation are available in UNESCO’s document 187 EX/13. The Board recommended to the UNESCO 36th session of the General Conference that it proclaim a World Radio Day at its 36th session\, and that this day be celebrated by UNESCO on 13 February\, the anniversary of the day that the United Nations established the United Nations Radio in 1946. \nIt also invited all United Nations Member States\, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations\, professional associations and broadcasting unions\, as well as civil society\, including non-governmental organizations and individuals\, to duly celebrate World Radio Day\, in the way that each considers most adequate. The board further requested that UNESCO’s Director-General bring the resolution to the attention of the Secretary-General of the United Nations\, so that World Radio Day could be endorsed by the General Assembly and celebrated by the whole system. The matter was subsequently treated by UNESCO’s General Conference\, which adopted resolution contained in the file 36 C/63. World Radio Day was thus unanimously proclaimed by all Member States of UNESCO in November 2011. In December 2012\, The General Assembly of the UN endorsed the proclamation of World Radio Day\, thereby becoming a day to be celebrated by all UN agencies\, funds and programmes and their partners. DESCRIPTION:Op een festival is geen ruimte voor misdaad: sluit Israël\, net als Rusland\, uit van het Eurovisiesongfestival! \nHet is belangrijk dat wij vanuit Nederland het Eurovisiesongfestival boycotten omdat Israël zich profileert als Westers land wat zogenaamd ‘vrijer’ en ‘geciviliseerder’ zou zijn dan omliggende landen. Terwijl ze tegelijkertijd sinds 7 oktober meer dan 25.000 doden op hun geweten hebben\, en sinds 1947 nog ontelbaar meer. Zolang we doen alsof dit een doorsnee land is dat gewoon mee mag doen aan ‘niet-politieke’ zangwedstrijden\, kan Israël zich ook zo kan blijven profileren. Dit geeft op zijn beurt weer de indruk aan het publiek van het Eurovisiesongfestival dat Israël ‘een land zoals dat van hen’ is\, en dus deze genocidale daden niet op hun geweten kan hebben. Daarnaast wekt deelname aan het Eurovisiesongfestival\, wat breed gewaardeerd wordt binnen de LHBTQIA+ gemeenschap\, de indruk dat Israël queervriendelijk is. Dit signaleert dat Israël progressieve waarden zou onderschrijven. Maar als queer koppel kun je niet trouwen in Israël\, en de staat roeit nu alle queer personen in Palestina actief uit. Dat zijn geen progressieve waarden\, dat is pinkwashing. We moeten stoppen met Israël legitimiteit verlenen. AvroTros moet hierin hun verantwoordelijkheid nemen door het Eurovisiesongfestival te boycotten\, totdat Israël ervan wordt geweerd.
