DESCRIPTION:Dead Duck Day is spontaan ontstaan op 5 juni 1996\, om 17:55\, toen Kees Moeliker (toen conservator van het Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam)\, samen met een collega besloot om de Wilde Eend (Anas platyrhynchos) te herdenken die zich precies een jaar eerder tegen de glazen gevel van het museum dood vloog en direct daarna werd ‘verkracht’ door een soort- en seksegenoot. \nSindsdien verzamelt zich elk jaar op 5 juni om 17:55 (het exacte tijdstip waarop een harde klap tegen de ruit de dood van de eend aankondigde) een wisselend aantal betrokkenen en belangstellenden (soms stond Kees Moeliker er alleen) buiten op het gazon naast het glazen nieuwbouwpaviljoen van het Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam in het Museumpark. Sinds de 13e Dead Duck Day (in 2008) is publiek welkom. Na afloop is er een zes-gangen eendendiner. De viering van Dead Duck Day\, op 5 juni\, moet het ook in 2021 zonder publiek doen. Hoewel Het Natuurhistorisch precies op deze memorabele datum heropent\, staan de maatregelen om de coronapandemie te beteugelen een programma met publiek niet toe. Iedereen kan natuurlijk met inachtneming van de huidige coronamaatregelen op gepaste wijze de dode eend herdenken en aandacht vragen voor de miljarden vogels die jaarlijks wereldwijd tegen glazen gebouwen om het leven komen. \nLinks:\nDead Duck Day

DESCRIPTION:Jazz is een op improvisatie gebaseerde muziekstijl die beïnvloed is door West-Afrikaanse ritmes en ontstaan is in New Orleans uit een kruisbestuiving van ragtime en blues\, folk\, negrospirituals en Franse marsmuziek. \nOorspronkelijk betekende het woord jazz een “zeer energieke dans”. Jazz werd in de beginjaren door het grote publiek niet erg geaccepteerd\, vooral omdat deze soort muziek geassocieerd werd met losse zeden en een lage sociale status. De swingperiode die toen begon betekende een hoogtepunt in de populariteit van jazz\, iets dat voornamelijk te danken was aan het feit dat jazz toen nog steeds uitsluitend dansmuziek was. Toen jazz vanaf de jaren vijftig evolueerde naar meer experimentele muzikale vormen\, en vanwege de opkomst van opwindende dansmuziek zoals rock-‘n-roll\, ging de verkoop van jazzplaten sterk achteruit. De jazz is echter gebleven\, en blijft zich vernieuwen. Dit artikel geeft een overzicht van de jazzgeschiedenis vanaf ragtime en hotjazz tot de fusionstijlen van de laatste decennia. In 2011 besloot UNESCO dat het tijd werd voor een Internationale Dag van de Jazz (International Jazz Day) om ook de jeugd te enthousiasmeren voor deze inspirerende muziekstroming. De drijvende krachten achter Internationale Jazz Day zijn Audrey Azoulay\, UNESCO-directeur-generaal\, en de legendarische jazzpianist en componist Herbie Hancock. De datum 23 april werd gekozen omdat deze dag in Spanje al sinds 1923 in het teken stond van boeken. Op die dag werd de schrijver Miguel de Cervantes geëerd. Dit werd later ook opgenomen in de Spaanse viering van Sint Jorisdag (eveneens op 23 april). Een andere reden om 23 april als datum te kiezen was omdat dit de geboorte- en sterfdag was van William Shakespeare\, Miguel de Cervantes\, Garcilaso de la Vega en Josep Pla. Het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Ierland hanteren als enigen een andere datum voor wereldboekendag. In deze landen wordt de dag gevierd op de eerste donderdag in maart. Dit omdat 23 april nog wel eens wil samenvallen met Pasen en de hierbij horende schoolvakanties. DESCRIPTION:Wereld Creativiteit en Innovatie Dag (WCID ) werd in 2001 opgericht door de Canadese Marci Segal\, zij had het idee dat in die tijd men bij het woord creativiteit alleen maar aan kunst dacht. \nCreativiteit gebruiken bij oplossen van problemen leek toentertijd dom\, lichtzinnig en tijdverspilling. Zij hoopt met WCID het gebruik van creativiteit te bevorderen bij probleemoplossingen en het optimaliseren van innovatie mogelijkheden. Uiteindelijke doel: de duurzame toekomst creëren die men voor ogen heeft. Creativiteit en Innovatie Dag wordt tegenwoordig in meer dan 50 landen gevierd en in 2017 werd deze dag officieel erkend door de Verenigde Naties. (Resolutie A / RES / 71/284). Maar waarom op 21 april? Omdat 21 april zes dagen na de verjaardag van Leonardo da Vinci valt en precies één dag voor Internationale Dag van de Aarde. Je kunt zeggen dat World Creativity and Innovation Day goed gepositioneerd staat om creatief multidisciplinair denken te promoten. Volgens het UNESCO – rapport over cultuur en duurzame ontwikkeling moeten culturele en creatieve industrieën deel uitmaken van economische groeistrategieën. Deze industrieën behoren namelijk tot de meest dynamische sectoren in de wereldeconomie. Zij genereren wereldwijd 2\,25 miljard dollar aan inkomsten en zijn goed voor 29\,5 miljoen banen. Kortom een industrie waar men echt rekening mee moet houden. WCID is een uitnodiging om het idee te omarmen dat innovatie essentieel is om het economische potentieel van naties te benutten. Innovatie\, creativiteit en ondernemerschap kunnen een nieuwe impuls geven aan economische groei en werkgelegenheid. Het biedt meer kansen voor iedereen. Kadir heeft nu samen met Doke de gelijknamige serie voor de VPRO gemaakt\, die sinds 8 april 2024 wekelijks op maandag via NPO 2 wordt uitgezonden. Voor de serie bezochten Doke en Kadir de Verenigde Staten\, Kenia\, China\, Saudi-Arabië en de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten. Sperziebonen en avocado’s uit Kenia. Het eten in de Nederlandse schappen legt gemiddeld ongeveer 30.000 kilometer af voor het op ons bord terecht komt. Dat is even ver als naar Australië en weer terug. DESCRIPTION:The Health for All Film Festival (HAFF) has its online awards ceremony every year between May and June. \nIt is an opportunity to meet the winners and converse with the film producers\, the HAFF jury\, and global health experts. This dialogue continues throughout the years with more precise panel discussions recorded and available for health promotion and health education activities. In-person screenings of some of our winning and selected films have been organized by various World Health Organization (WHO) Offices and by several of the WHO HAFF institutional partners from a growing network. These events represent additional opportunities for this educational dialogue between filmmakers and health experts\, building up our global movement for positive behavior changes through films. In April and May 2024\, HAFF releases its new official selection published on WHO’s YouTube channel. The day often meant a day off from school for Federation youth. Het platform heeft een YouTube-kanaal en is actief op Facebook\, X\, LinkedIn\, Instagram en TikTok. \nGeluidshinder is oorzaak van veel gezondheidsklachten. DESCRIPTION:International Children’s Book Day (ICBD) is a yearly event sponsored by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY)\, an international non-profit organization\, founded in 1967\, the day is observed on or around Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday\, April 2. \nActivities include writing competitions\, announcements of book awards and events with authors of children’s literature. Each year a different National Section of IBBY has the opportunity to be the international sponsor of ICBD. It decides upon a theme and invites a prominent author from the host country to write a message to the children of the world and a well-known illustrator to design a poster. These materials are used in different ways to promote books and reading. Many IBBY Sections promote ICBD through the media and organize activities in schools and public libraries. DESCRIPTION:April is de Maand van de Filosofie\, jaarlijks worden tijdens deze maand door heel België en Nederland filosofische nachten\, programma’s\, lezingen\, debatten en festivals georganiseerd. \nElk jaar verschijnt er een nieuw filosofisch essay\, wordt de Socratesbeker uitgereikt aan het beste filosofieboek van het jaar en eens in de twee jaar wordt een nieuwe Denker des Vaderlands uitgeroepen. De filosofie of wijsbegeerte is de oudste theoretische discipline die het verlangen en het streven uitdrukt naar kennis en wijsheid. Zij kwam voor het eerst echt op in de 6e eeuw voor de Gregoriaanse jaartelling. Een beoefenaar van de filosofie wordt een filosoof of wijsgeer genoemd. In het dagelijks spraakgebruik wordt de term filosofie gebruikt om elke vorm van wijsheid of levensbeschouwing aan te duiden (zoals in “iemands filosofie”) of iemands uitgangspunten (zoals in “het sluit niet aan op de filosofie achter dit plan”). DESCRIPTION:Een 1 aprilgrap (ook wel aprilgrap of aprilvis genoemd) is een traditie waarbij mensen elkaar op 1 april voor de gek proberen te houden. \nIn Frankrijk spreekt men van poisson d’avril (Aprilvis). In Engelstalige landen wordt de dag April Fools’ Day (April dwazendag) genoemd\, en de Russen hebben het over День Дурака (Den Doeraka\, dag van de dommerik). In sommige Vlaamse streken spreekt men over verzenderke(n)sdag\, de dag waarop je iedereen tracht ergens heen te zenden om ze beet te nemen. Door de strijd tegen fake news worden 1 aprilgrappen wereldwijd minder populair\, onder andere de VRT heeft aangegeven dit niet meer te doen. Uit sommige bronnen blijkt dat de bijzondere betekenis van 1 april ontstaan is bij de Franse wijziging naar de gregoriaanse kalender\, zoals opgedragen door Paus Gregorius XIII in 1582. Voor die tijd werd Nieuwjaar gevierd van 25 maart tot 1 april. Met de verandering van het kalendersysteem werd Nieuwjaar verplaatst naar 1 januari. Mensen die dit vergaten of die het nieuwe kalendersysteem weigerden te aanvaarden\, kregen uitnodigingen voor niet-gehouden feestjes\, grappige presentjes enzovoort. Deze verklaring is echter onwaarschijnlijk: de 1 aprilgrap wordt namelijk al eerder vermeld in een Franse bron uit 1508\, dus ruim voor die tijd. De eerste vermelding in een Nederlandstalige bron dateert uit ca. 1560 te Brugge\, een gedicht van de rederijker Eduard de Dene. Het is een parodie op ‘1 april’ waarin een knecht het plan van zijn heer om hem te verzenden\, doorziet. De geschiedenis gaat dus ten minste terug tot het begin van de zestiende eeuw. \nDe wijde verspreiding van het verschijnsel wijst echter op een oudere oorsprong. De 1 aprilgrap is volgens een andere theorie ontstaan uit een vroeger middeleeuws festival: het feest van de zotten. La fête des fous was vooral in Frankrijk van de 5e tot de 16e eeuw erg populair. Het werd gevierd omstreeks 1 januari door het kiezen van een valse paus of bisschop en ging gepaard met allerlei rituelen en festiviteiten waarbij de geestelijkheid werd geparodieerd. Aan de basis hiervan lagen dan weer naar alle waarschijnlijkheid vroegere heidense saturnalia. Er zijn verklaringen gezocht in het wisselvallige aprilweer en parallellen gezien met de Germaanse mythologie (Loki) en met de Bijbelse geschiedenis. In verschillende landen zijn ook wel nationale gebeurtenissen aangevoerd als begin van de traditie. Deze verklaringen\, die waarschijnlijk ooit zelf als aprilgrap zijn verzonnen\, leiden soms tot op de dag van vandaag een hardnekkig leven. Zo denkt men in Nederland nog vaak dat de grappenmakerij begonnen is met de inname van Den Briel door de watergeuzen op 1 april 1572\, zoals blijkt uit een bekend gezegde: Op 1 april verloor Alva zijn bril.
