DESCRIPTION:Zomergasten is een Nederlands televisieprogramma van de VPRO dat elk jaar in de zomer\, meer bepaald rond augustus\, op zondagavond rechtstreeks uitgezonden wordt. \nHet programma bestaat sinds 1988. In een avondvullend programma mag iedere zondag een bekende of interessante Nederlander\, Vlaming of Nederlandssprekende buitenlander zijn of haar favoriete televisieavond samenstellen. De gast komt meestal uit de literatuur\, wetenschap\, televisie\, de politiek of het bedrijfsleven. De gekozen fragmenten worden getoond en aan de hand daarvan wordt de gast geïnterviewd door een interviewer/presentator. Het programma is gaandeweg uitgegroeid tot een van de bekendste programma’s van de Nederlandse publieke omroep. Sinds 2003 wordt na elke aflevering een film uitgezonden die door de gast van de avond is uitgekozen. \nSchrijver\, columnist en programmamaker Özcan Akyol (Deventer\, 1984)\, beter bekend als Eus\, is op zondag 27 juli 2025 de eerste Zomergast. Griet Op de Beeck interviewt Akyol over zijn ideale televisieavond. Akyol: ‘In mijn fragmenten toon ik de harde én zachte stemmen die mij hebben gevormd. Van mijn artistieke helden tot onbekende subculturen: ik wil laten zien dat we\, ondanks verschillen in afkomst of klasse\, meer op elkaar lijken dan we denken.’ Özcan Akyol (Deventer\, 1984) debuteert in 2012 met het veelgeprezen semi-autobiografische Eus\, over opgroeien in een arbeiderswijk in Deventer\, als kind van ongeletterde Turkse ouders. Akyol schrijft nog vijf boeken\, naast honderden columns voor onder meer het Algemeen Dagblad. Hij presenteert programma’s bij diverse omroepen en is een graag geziene gast in talkshows. In de televisieseries die hij maakt over Turkije belicht hij de culturele\, religieuze en etnische diversiteit van het land. De oorzaak wordt nog onderzocht door branddeskundigen. De volgende dag werd op een persconferentie aangekondigd dat het festival toch kan doorgaan\, met toestemming van de veiligheidsdiensten. De Mainstage is onbruikbaar\, maar er wordt naar oplossingen gezocht. Camping Dreamville wordt geopend. Normaal blijft het hoofdpodium\, waar twee jaar aan gewerkt werd\, geheim gehouden tot de opening. DESCRIPTION:De Kermisfestival Tilburg / Tilburgse Kermis is de grootste kermis in de Benelux en wordt gehouden in de Noord-Brabantse plaats Tilburg. \nEr staan jaarlijks tussen de 230 en 240 attracties uit binnen- en buitenland\, in een 4\,5 kilometer lang lint door het centrum van de stad. De kermis trekt jaarlijks meer dan een miljoen bezoekers en is daarmee een van de best bezochte evenementen van Nederland. Hoewel de kermis met de tijd is meegegaan en dus voor het merendeel uit moderne attracties bestaat is er ook plaats ingeruimd voor een nostalgische kermis. De Tilburgse kermis duurt tien dagen: hij eindigt op de laatste zondag van juli en start dus negen dagen eerder op vrijdag. Ieder jaar treden op de themadagen bekende artiesten uit binnen- en buitenland op. Op de eerste zondag is het tussen 11:00 en 14:00 Blauwe zondag. Dit is een speciale ‘prikkelarme’ periode: geluiden en muziek van attracties worden dan gedempt. Op maandag is het Roze Maandag\, een evenement voor homo- en biseksuelen\, lesbiennes en transgenders (LHBT‘ers)\, na een eerste nichtenavond in 1990 werd dit al snel het drukstbezochte onderdeel van de Tilburgse Kermis. DESCRIPTION:Zwarte Cross is het grootste betaalde muziekfestival van Nederland en de grootste motorcross ter wereld. \nDé Achterhoekse vlag\nHet festival vindt plaats op een terrein van 160 hectare in de gemeente Oost Gelre\, vlak tegen Lichtenvoorde aan\, maar het terrein hoort voornamelijk bij Lievelde en deels bij Vragender. Er zijn tientallen podia waarop zo’n 250 bands en 1000 theaterartiesten optredens verzorgen. De organisatie ervan was lange tijd indirect in handen van rockband Jovink en de Voederbietels. \nIn mei 2025 werd bekend dat eind 2024 het bedrijf Superstruct Entertainment\, dat eigenaar is van tientallen festivals waaronder Zwarte Cross\, eind 2024 was opgekocht door het Amerikaanse bedrijf Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR). Dat is omstreden\, omdat het onder andere investeert in de wapenindustrie en Israëlische bedrijven die actief zijn op de Westelijke Jordaanoever\, specifiek het gebied dat door Israël wordt bezet alsmede fossiele brandstoffen zoals een aardgaspijplijn in Canada\, milieuclubs trokken al eerder aan de bel omtrent “vervuilende praktijken”. DESCRIPTION:Barbershop Music Appreciation Day takes place on July 13 every year. \nThe best way to join in Barbershop Music Appreciation Day is to go straight into a barbershop and enjoy the music that you can hear inside. In 2005\, “The Sweet Adelines International” have founded this cheery holiday on their 60th anniversary. Barbershop vocal harmony\, as codified during the barbershop revival era (1930s–present)\, is a style of a cappella close harmony\, or unaccompanied vocal music\, characterized by consonant four-part chords for every melody note in a primarily homorhythmic texture. Each of the four parts has its own role: generally\, the lead sings the melody\, the tenor harmonizes above the melody\, the bass sings the lowest harmonizing notes\, and the baritone completes the chord\, usually below the lead. The melody is not usually sung by the tenor or baritone\, except for an infrequent note or two to avoid awkward voice leading\, in tags or codas\, or when some appropriate embellishment can be created. One characteristic feature of barbershop harmony is the use of what is known as “snakes” and “swipes”. This is when a chord is altered by a change in one or more non-melodic voices. Occasional passages may be sung by fewer than four voice parts. \nBarbershop music is generally performed by either a barbershop quartet\, a group of four singers with one on each vocal part\, or a barbershop chorus\, which closely resembles a choir with the notable exception of the genre of music. According to the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS)\, “Barbershop music features songs with understandable lyrics and easily singable melodies\, whose tones clearly define a tonal center and imply major and minor chords and barbershop (dominant and secondary dominant) seventh chords that resolve primarily around the circle of fifths\, while making frequent use of other resolutions.” Slower barbershop songs\, especially ballads\, often eschew a continuous beat\, and notes are often held (or sped up) ad libitum. Except for the bass\, the voice parts in barbershop singing do not correspond closely to their classical music counterparts; the tenor range and tessitura are similar to those of the classical countertenor\, the baritone resembles the Heldentenor or lyric baritone in range and a tenor in tessitura\, and the lead generally corresponds to the tenor of classical repertoire\, with some singers possessing a tessitura more similar to that of a high baritone. SUMMARY:Kwaku Summer Festival 2025
DESCRIPTION:Het Kwaku Summer Festival (voorheen het Kwakoe Zomerfestival) wordt sinds 1975 bijna elk jaar tijdens een aantal weekeinden in de zomer gehouden in het Nelson Mandelapark in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. \nHet is van origine een Surinaams festival\, maar het heeft zich ontwikkeld tot een multicultureel festival. Het festival is ontstaan in 1975 als voetbaltoernooi\, georganiseerd door Stichting Jongeren Centrum Kwakoe tijdens het 700-jarig bestaan van Amsterdam. Het speelde zich aanvankelijk af op de sportvelden van SV Bijlmer\, op de locatie van het huidige Bijlmerplein in Amsterdam Zuidoost. In 1983 verhuisde het festival naar de huidige locatie in het Nelson Mandelapark dat in die tijd Bijlmerpark heette. Eind jaren negentig dienden zowel het jongerencentrum Kwakoe als de organisatie van het festival een vergunningaanvraag in. De festivalorganisatie Stichting Kwakoe Events onder leiding van Winston Kout kreeg de vergunning toegewezen en heeft het festival sindsdien georganiseerd. Van een louter Surinaams feest\, voor arme Surinamers uit de Bijlmerhoogbouw die geen geld hebben om op vakantie te gaan\, ontwikkelde het festival zich sindsdien tot een multicultureel festival dat zich ook op Antillianen en Afrikanen richt. DESCRIPTION:The World Heritage Committee meets once a year for an ordinary session to discuss the management of existing World Heritage Sites\, and accept nominations by countries. \nExtraordinary meetings can be convened at the request of two-thirds of the state members. Meetings are held within the territory of state members of the World Heritage Committee at their invitation. Rotation between regions and cultures is a consideration for selection and the location for the next session is chosen by the committee at the end of each session. \nThe World Heritage Committee is a committee of the United Nations Educational\, Scientific and Cultural Organization that selects the sites to be listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites\, including the World Heritage List and the List of World Heritage in Danger\, defines the use of the World Heritage Fund and allocates financial assistance upon requests from States Parties. It comprises representatives from 21 state parties that are elected by the General Assembly of States Parties for a four-year term. These parties vote on decisions and proposals related to the World Heritage Convention and World Heritage List. According to the World Heritage Convention\, a committee member’s term of office is six years. DESCRIPTION:The International Day of the Tropics celebrates the extraordinary diversity of the tropics while highlighting unique challenges and opportunities nations of the Tropics face\, it provides an opportunity to take stock of progress across the tropics\, to share tropical stories and expertise and to acknowledge the diversity and potential of the region. \nThe Tropics are a region of the Earth\, roughly defined as the area between the tropic of Cancer and the tropic of Capricorn. Although topography and other factors contribute to climatic variation\, tropical locations are typically warm and experience little seasonal change in day-to-day temperature. An important feature of the Tropics is the prevalence of rain in the moist inner regions near the equator\, and that the seasonality of rainfall increases with the distance from the equator. The tropical region faces several challenges such as climate change\, deforestation\, logging\, urbanisation and demographic changes. Tropical nations have made significant progress but face a variety of challenges that demand focused attention across a range of development indicators and data in order to achieve sustainable development. \n\nBy 2050\, the region will host most of the world’s people and two-thirds of its children.\nConsistent with the higher levels of poverty\, more people experience undernourishment in the Tropics than in the rest of the world.\nThe proportion of the urban population living in slum conditions is higher in the Tropics than in the rest of the World.\n\nThe inaugural State of the Tropics Report was launched on 29 June 2014\, as the culmination of a collaboration between twelve leading tropical research institutions. The report offers a unique perspective on this increasingly important region. Marking the anniversary of the report’s launch the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/70/267 in 2016\, which declared that 29 June of each year is to be observed as the International Day of the Tropics. The international Day of the Tropics was designated to raise awareness to the specific challenges faced by tropical areas\, the far-reaching implications of the issues affecting the world’s tropical zone and the need\, at all levels\, to raise awareness and to underline the important role that countries in the tropics will play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. \nLinks:\nDay of the Tropics

DESCRIPTION:Oerol is een jaarlijks terugkerend tiendaags cultureel festival in juni\, dat wordt gehouden op het Nederlandse eiland Terschelling. \nDit festival werd in 1981 opgericht door Joop Mulder\, destijds eigenaar van café De Stoep in Midsland. De naam van het Festival is afgeleid van het woord “overal” in Terschellings. Oerol wordt geprogrammeerd aan het begin van de zomer\, als het eiland volop in het groen staat. Heel Terschelling vormt de locatie voor het Festival\, waarbij intensief wordt opgetrokken met Staatsbosbeheer\, een van de partners. Op Oerol is ruimte voor het experiment en jonge makers\, maar er is ook plek voor gevestigde groepen die die in première gaan op Oerol. Ieder jaar komen bezoekers naar de Nederlandse en internationale theatervoorstellingen\, muziek\, Expedities\, Talks en Pop-up Performance tijdens deze tijdelijke maatschappij op een eiland. DESCRIPTION:Vrijdag de dertiende wordt door veel mensen als een ongeluksdag beschouwd\, wegens de combinatie van vrijdag en dertien. \nEr is een reeks speculatieve verklaringen voor vrijdag de dertiende als ongeluksdag\, maar deze berusten gewoonlijk op interpretatie achteraf: \n\nDe oudste gebeurtenis die in de joods–christelijke traditie naar onheil op vrijdag de dertiende zou verwijzen is de tiende plaag van Egypte.\nHet allereerste Pascha was gepland op een sjabbat\, zaterdag de 14e Nisan. Die sabbat begint echter op vrijdagmiddag 18:00 en omvat in de westerse tijdsopvatting de nacht van vrijdag de 13e. In de joodse tijdsopvatting eindigde de dag echter met de avond\, zodat de vrijdag er niets mee te maken had. Volgens het Bijbelboek Exodus stierven in die nacht alle eerstgeborenen van mens en dier.\nEen andere verklaring is dat vrijdag de dag is waarop Jezus werd gekruisigd. Als die dag dan ook nog samenvalt met het ongeluksgetal 13\, moet deze dag volgens het volksgeloof extra ongeluk veroorzaken.\nDe vrijdagen kunnen ook een kwade naam gekregen hebben omdat de Romeinen op die dag door doodvonnissen voltrokken. Ook in Engeland werd de doodstraf op een vrijdag voltrokken.\nDat ‘dertien’ een negatieve klank had in de christelijke wereld is sinds de zeventiende eeuw mogelijk terug te brengen tot het Laatste Avondmaal van Christus\, waar dertien personen aanzaten. Wat volgde was het verraad door het vertrek van een dertiende persoon (Judas) en daarna de kruisiging van Christus. In het christendom is twaalf sowieso het getal van de perfectie\, denk aan de twaalf stammen van Israël\, de twaalf discipelen en 144.000 uitverkorenen (12×12). Twaalf plus één betekent dan: imperfectie of ongeluk.\n\n\nKlik op afbeelding voor origineel\n\nEen andere mogelijke verklaring is dat op vrijdag de dertiende oktober 1307 in Frankrijk alle Tempeliers op bevel van Philips de Schone werden gearresteerd\, op grond van valse beschuldigingen. Dit was de opmaat voor de uiteindelijke vernietiging van de Orde van de Arme Ridders van Christus en de Tempel van Salomo\, beter bekend als de Tempeliers. Sindsdien is men vrijdag de dertiende blijven zien als ongeluksdag.\nEr wordt ook wel gesteld dat vrijdag de dertiende is afgeleid van een Noorse sage. Twaalf goden hielden een diner in Walhalla (de hemel)\, waarop plotseling de kwaadaardige god Loki\, de god van chaos en leugens\, onuitgenodigd binnenkwam en Baldr\, de god van de vreugde\, doodschoot\, waardoor de aarde in rouw gedompeld werd.\nMarianne Williamson stelt in het boek A Woman’s Worth (In vrouwelijkheid) dat vrijdag de dertiende zou afstammen van de dag dat de heksen bij elkaar kwamen voor gebed en heelwording en dat het patriarchaat onder leiding van de kerk deze ontmoetingsdagen zwart heeft gemaakt.\n\nLinks:\nA look at what made 13 the unluckiest number \nFriday the 13th \nVrijdag de 13e staat bekend als een ongeluksdag\, maar waar komt die dag vandaan?
