SUMMARY:Save the Observatory Science Centre Herstmonceux - petition
DESCRIPTION:The Observatory Science Centre is an educational charity which has called the Grade II listed\, former home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory at Herstmonceux\, East Sussex\, home for the last 30 years. \nThe Canadian landlords\, Queen’s University\, who also own Herstmonceux Castle\, are not renewing the Science Centre’s lease\, so come the end of the 2026 season the Science Centre will be homeless. Over the years the science centre have worked tirelessly to fund and restore the site and the telescopes back to their former glory. The centre is a major venue for exhibitions\, lectures and educational programmes. The renovated telescopes provide a unique setting for the general public\, schools\, colleges\, and brownie and scout groups to learn about science\, space and the world around them. Whilst the Science Centre is in search for a new site to continue operations beyond 2026\, they should not have to leave the Observatory site at all and the historic site should be preserved for future generations as a great educational tool of significant historical importance. Kirk (William Shatner)\, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and their crewmates as they explored the galaxy on the starship USS Enterprise. Star Trek is an American science fiction media franchise created by Gene Roddenberry\, which began with the eponymous 1960s television series and became a worldwide pop-culture phenomenon. The franchise has expanded into various films\, television series\, video games\, novels\, and comic books\, becoming one of the most recognizable and highest-grossing media franchises of all time. The franchise began with Star Trek: The Original Series\, which debuted in the US on September 8\, 1966\, and aired for three seasons on NBC. It was first broadcast on September 6\, 1966\, on Canada’s CTV network. It followed the voyages of the crew of the USS Enterprise\, a space exploration vessel built by the United Federation of Planets in the 23rd century\, on a mission “to explore strange new worlds\, to seek out new life and new civilizations\, to boldly go where no man has gone before”. In creating Star Trek\, Roddenberry was inspired by C. S. DESCRIPTION:April is in 2026 al 25 jaar de Maand van de Filosofie! \nJaarlijks worden in april door heel Nederland en Vlaanderen filosofische nachten\, programma’s\, lezingen\, debatten en festivals georganiseerd rondom het thema van de Maand van de Filosofie. Het thema van 2026 is ‘Ken onszelve’. Elk jaar verschijnt er een nieuw filosofisch essay\, wordt de Socratesbeker uitgereikt aan het beste filosofieboek van het jaar en eens in de twee jaar wordt een nieuwe Denker des Vaderlands uitgeroepen. De filosofie of wijsbegeerte is de oudste theoretische discipline die het verlangen en het streven uitdrukt naar kennis en wijsheid. Zij kwam voor het eerst echt op in de 6e eeuw voor de Gregoriaanse jaartelling. Een beoefenaar van de filosofie wordt een filosoof of wijsgeer genoemd. In het dagelijks spraakgebruik wordt de term filosofie gebruikt om elke vorm van wijsheid of levensbeschouwing aan te duiden (zoals in “iemands filosofie”) of iemands uitgangspunten (zoals in “het sluit niet aan op de filosofie achter dit plan”). DESCRIPTION:In 2011 werd door UNESCO besloten dat het tijd werd voor een Internationale Dag van de Jazz (International Jazz Day) om ook de jeugd te enthousiasmeren voor de inspirerende muziekstroming Jazz. \nDe drijvende krachten achter Internationale Jazz Day zijn Audrey Azoulay\, UNESCO-directeur-generaal\, en de legendarische jazzpianist en componist Herbie Hancock. Het doel van deze dag is de positieve boodschap van Jazz te verspreiden. Jazz inspireer(t)de wereldwijd miljoenen mensen die op zoek waren (zijn) naar vrijheid\, respect voor mensenrechten en menselijke waardigheid. Jazz is een op improvisatie gebaseerde muziekstijl die beïnvloed is door West-Afrikaanse ritmes en ontstaan is in New Orleans uit een kruisbestuiving van ragtime en blues\, folk\, negrospirituals en Franse marsmuziek. Oorspronkelijk betekende het woord jazz een “zeer energieke dans”. Jazz werd in de beginjaren door het grote publiek niet erg geaccepteerd\, vooral omdat deze soort muziek geassocieerd werd met losse zeden en een lage sociale status. Toen blanke en gemengde jazzorkesten vanaf de jaren 1930 deze muziek begonnen te spelen\, werd het ook voor blanken een aanvaarde vorm van entertainment. De swingperiode die toen begon betekende een hoogtepunt in de populariteit van jazz\, iets dat voornamelijk te danken was aan het feit dat jazz toen nog steeds uitsluitend dansmuziek was. Toen jazz vanaf de jaren vijftig evolueerde naar meer experimentele muzikale vormen\, en vanwege de opkomst van opwindende dansmuziek zoals rock-‘n-roll\, ging de verkoop van jazzplaten sterk achteruit. De jazz is echter gebleven\, en blijft zich vernieuwen. Jazz gaat over verbinding en kracht.
