SUMMARY:Save the Observatory Science Centre Herstmonceux - petition
DESCRIPTION:The Observatory Science Centre is an educational charity which has called the Grade II listed\, former home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory at Herstmonceux\, East Sussex\, home for the last 30 years. \nThe Canadian landlords\, Queen’s University\, who also own Herstmonceux Castle\, are not renewing the Science Centre’s lease\, so come the end of the 2026 season the Science Centre will be homeless. Over the years the science centre have worked tirelessly to fund and restore the site and the telescopes back to their former glory. The centre is a major venue for exhibitions\, lectures and educational programmes. The renovated telescopes provide a unique setting for the general public\, schools\, colleges\, and brownie and scout groups to learn about science\, space and the world around them. Whilst the Science Centre is in search for a new site to continue operations beyond 2026\, they should not have to leave the Observatory site at all and the historic site should be preserved for future generations as a great educational tool of significant historical importance. The franchise has expanded into various films\, television series\, video games\, novels\, and comic books\, becoming one of the most recognizable and highest-grossing media franchises of all time. The franchise began with Star Trek: The Original Series\, which debuted in the US on September 8\, 1966\, and aired for three seasons on NBC. It was first broadcast on September 6\, 1966\, on Canada’s CTV network. It followed the voyages of the crew of the USS Enterprise\, a space exploration vessel built by the United Federation of Planets in the 23rd century\, on a mission “to explore strange new worlds\, to seek out new life and new civilizations\, to boldly go where no man has gone before”. In creating Star Trek\, Roddenberry was inspired by C. S. Het thema van 2026 is ‘Ken onszelve’. Elk jaar verschijnt er een nieuw filosofisch essay\, wordt de Socratesbeker uitgereikt aan het beste filosofieboek van het jaar en eens in de twee jaar wordt een nieuwe Denker des Vaderlands uitgeroepen. De filosofie of wijsbegeerte is de oudste theoretische discipline die het verlangen en het streven uitdrukt naar kennis en wijsheid. Zij kwam voor het eerst echt op in de 6e eeuw voor de Gregoriaanse jaartelling. Een beoefenaar van de filosofie wordt een filosoof of wijsgeer genoemd. In het dagelijks spraakgebruik wordt de term filosofie gebruikt om elke vorm van wijsheid of levensbeschouwing aan te duiden (zoals in “iemands filosofie”) of iemands uitgangspunten (zoals in “het sluit niet aan op de filosofie achter dit plan”). DESCRIPTION:First Contact Day is a holiday celebrated in the Federation on April 5\, marking the anniversaries of the flight of the Phoenix and of first contact between Humans and Vulcans on April 5th\, 2063 in Bozeman\, Montana. \nThe holiday also shares the same date as the Day of Honor in the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Republic’s Republic Day. While not a major holiday\, Naomi Wildman and Neelix planned an elaborate celebration aboard the USS Voyager in 2377\, including cheese pierogies\, rock and roll music\, and a reenactment of the historic first contact by Lieutenant Commander Tuvok. The day often meant a day off from school for Federation youth. (VOY episode: “Homestead”\, ST website: Startrek.com). In 2381\, Admiral Leonard James Akaar planned to have the USS Titan relaunched on First Contact Day\, as part of a morale-boosting effort following the Borg Invasion earlier that year. (TNG novel: Losing the Peace). First Contact Day was a holiday celebrated to honor both the warp 1 flight of the Phoenix and first open contact between Humans and Vulcans (Star Trek: First Contact). On Earth\, children were given a day off from school\, a fact that Captain Kathryn Janeway remembered was really the only way it was celebrated. \nNaomi Wildman and Neelix planned the 315th observation of the event aboard the USS Voyager. The festivities included Zefram Cochrane’s favorite food\, cheese pierogies\, and rock and roll music on Tom Paris’s jukebox. At Neelix’s insistence\, Tuvok gave the Vulcan salute while reciting the greeting given by the Vulcans during first contact: “Live long and prosper.” He did not see the point of it\, but everyone in attendance applauded.
