SUMMARY:Save the Observatory Science Centre Herstmonceux - petition
DESCRIPTION:The Observatory Science Centre is an educational charity which has called the Grade II listed\, former home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory at Herstmonceux\, East Sussex\, home for the last 30 years. \nThe Canadian landlords\, Queen’s University\, who also own Herstmonceux Castle\, are not renewing the Science Centre’s lease\, so come the end of the 2026 season the Science Centre will be homeless. Over the years the science centre have worked tirelessly to fund and restore the site and the telescopes back to their former glory. The centre is a major venue for exhibitions\, lectures and educational programmes. The renovated telescopes provide a unique setting for the general public\, schools\, colleges\, and brownie and scout groups to learn about science\, space and the world around them. Whilst the Science Centre is in search for a new site to continue operations beyond 2026\, they should not have to leave the Observatory site at all and the historic site should be preserved for future generations as a great educational tool of significant historical importance. Kirk (William Shatner)\, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and their crewmates as they explored the galaxy on the starship USS Enterprise. Star Trek is an American science fiction media franchise created by Gene Roddenberry\, which began with the eponymous 1960s television series and became a worldwide pop-culture phenomenon. The franchise has expanded into various films\, television series\, video games\, novels\, and comic books\, becoming one of the most recognizable and highest-grossing media franchises of all time. The franchise began with Star Trek: The Original Series\, which debuted in the US on September 8\, 1966\, and aired for three seasons on NBC. It was first broadcast on September 6\, 1966\, on Canada’s CTV network. It followed the voyages of the crew of the USS Enterprise\, a space exploration vessel built by the United Federation of Planets in the 23rd century\, on a mission “to explore strange new worlds\, to seek out new life and new civilizations\, to boldly go where no man has gone before”. In creating Star Trek\, Roddenberry was inspired by C. S. SUMMARY:International Film Festival Rotterdam 2026
DESCRIPTION:Het International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is het grootste filmfestival van Nederland\, het wordt sinds 1972 jaarlijks in Rotterdam gehouden. \nSinds 2017 worden films getoond in Pathé Schouwburgplein\, Kino\, Cinerama\, LantarenVenster\, het Oude Luxor\, de Schouwburg\, De Doelen en Worm. Elk jaar gaat eind januari in Rotterdam het gros van de films in première die gedurende de rest van het jaar in Nederland te zien zullen zijn. Ook zijn er vele korte en lange films uit alle delen van de wereld te zien die buiten het festival niet meer in Nederland vertoond worden. Centraal staan de kleinere\, onafhankelijke en artistieke films van vaak weinig bekende regisseurs\, alhoewel de ‘betere’ Hollywoodfilm niet geschuwd wordt. Er zijn programmaonderdelen rond producties die zijn gefinancierd door het Hubert Bals Fonds\, retrospectieven van de ‘Filmmakers in Focus’\, forumdiscussies\, tentoonstellingen van videokunst\, enzovoort. Daarnaast is er tijdens het festival de CineMart waar filmmakers in contact kunnen komen met financiers. In the aftermath of challenges like Hurricane Melissa\, music across the island has become a source of emotional healing\, community connection\, and economic revival\, from benefit concerts to songs celebrating unity and rebuilding. For 2026\, the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) has chosen the theme “Rhythms of Resilience.” This was especially shaped by the impact of Hurricane Melissa\, a storm that recently hit Jamaica hard. Affecting communities\, livelihoods\, and the cultural ecosystem. The theme reflects how the music and rhythms of Jamaica have helped the nation cope\, heal\, and push forward after adversity.
