SUMMARY:Save the Observatory Science Centre Herstmonceux - petition
DESCRIPTION:The Observatory Science Centre is an educational charity which has called the Grade II listed\, former home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory at Herstmonceux\, East Sussex\, home for the last 30 years. \nThe Canadian landlords\, Queen’s University\, who also own Herstmonceux Castle\, are not renewing the Science Centre’s lease\, so come the end of the 2026 season the Science Centre will be homeless. Over the years the science centre have worked tirelessly to fund and restore the site and the telescopes back to their former glory. The centre is a major venue for exhibitions\, lectures and educational programmes. The renovated telescopes provide a unique setting for the general public\, schools\, colleges\, and brownie and scout groups to learn about science\, space and the world around them. Whilst the Science Centre is in search for a new site to continue operations beyond 2026\, they should not have to leave the Observatory site at all and the historic site should be preserved for future generations as a great educational tool of significant historical importance. DESCRIPTION:Het Amsterdam Light Festival (ALF) is een sinds 2012 jaarlijks terugkerend lichtfestival in de binnenstad van Amsterdam en vindt plaats rond de jaarwisseling\, in de maanden december en januari. \nGedurende de festivalperiode zijn specifiek voor de gelegenheid ontworpen lichtkunstwerken en -installaties van hedendaagse (internationale) kunstenaars\, designers en architecten tentoongesteld in de stad. Elk jaar heeft het Amsterdam Light Festival een ander thema. Editie 14 gaat over nalatenschap (Legacy). Zowel in het groot als in het klein. Want Legacy gaat over grootse historische en klimatologische gebeurtenissen die hun invloed lang doen gelden\, maar ook over het voortbestaan van familietradities en gedeelde herinneringen en gewoonten.​ \nWelk sporen laten we achter?\nWelke verhalen vertellen we door?\nHoe willen we herinnerd worden?​ \nTwintig kunstenaars van over heel de wereld gingen aan de slag met deze vragen. Stuk voor stuk vertaalden ze hun persoonlijke interpretatie van wat het betekent om iets na te laten naar een visuele en ruimtelijke ervaring. DESCRIPTION:Mitten Tree Day is a holiday celebrated on December 6th\, where people donate and hang mittens\, gloves\, and hats on a tree for those in need\, especially during the winter season. \nWhile the origins of this holiday are unknown\, it is believed that it is a response to the story The Mitten Tree\, by Candace Christiansen. In this story a lady is knitting mittens for children and hangs them on an evergreen tree near a bus stop. So those children waiting for the bus who don’t have mittens can use them to play in the snow. Every time the lady runs out of yarn a basket with more yarn appears at her door and she is able to continue to knit mittens for the children.
