SUMMARY:Save the Observatory Science Centre Herstmonceux - petition
DESCRIPTION:The Observatory Science Centre is an educational charity which has called the Grade II listed\, former home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory at Herstmonceux\, East Sussex\, home for the last 30 years. \nThe Canadian landlords\, Queen’s University\, who also own Herstmonceux Castle\, are not renewing the Science Centre’s lease\, so come the end of the 2026 season the Science Centre will be homeless. Over the years the science centre have worked tirelessly to fund and restore the site and the telescopes back to their former glory. The centre is a major venue for exhibitions\, lectures and educational programmes. The renovated telescopes provide a unique setting for the general public\, schools\, colleges\, and brownie and scout groups to learn about science\, space and the world around them. Whilst the Science Centre is in search for a new site to continue operations beyond 2026\, they should not have to leave the Observatory site at all and the historic site should be preserved for future generations as a great educational tool of significant historical importance. DESCRIPTION:Klik op afbeelding om te lezen\nDe Kerstpuzzel van Dr. Denker in het Dagblad van het Noorden bestaat uit veertig kleine rebussen of beeldcrypto’s met een eigen oplossing. \nHet aantal letters van elk oplossingswoord wordt aangegeven. Van groot belang is de stand of positie van de getekende letters en woorden\, maar soms ook de vorm en afwijkende achtergrondkleur. Bij veel plaatjes staat zoiets als ‘K=T’\, wat betekent dat het plaatje iets voorstelt waar een K in voorkomt\, en die letter moet worden veranderd in een T om de oplossing te vinden. Datzelfde kan echter ook met een voorwerp worden uitgebeeld: er staat een kist op het plaatje en dat moet worden geïnterpreteerd als ‘K=T’. Staat er ‘–M’\, dan moet de letter M uit het afgebeelde voorwerp verwijderd worden. De lettercombinatie ‘DMV’ kan geïnterpreteerd worden als ‘M in DV’ maar evengoed als ‘–DV’. Tot 1994 waren het zwart-wit plaatjes die met de hand waren getekend. De oplossingen sluiten aan bij het jaarlijks wisselende puzzelthema. In een introductietekst worden allerlei aanwijzingen over het thema gegeven. Vast grapje in elke kerstpuzzel is een opgave met een opgedirkte schaars geklede dame die staat voor ‘snol’\, ‘slet’\, ‘hoer’ of ‘del’. Vaak ook is er in een van de plaatjes een verborgen verwijzing te vinden naar de oplossing van een ander plaatje. DESCRIPTION:De bron van de Dag van de Rare Loopjes (The International Day of Silly Walks) ligt bij het Engelse Ministry of Silly Walks\, is een sketch uit aflevering 14 van Monty Python’s Flying Circus\, getiteld Face the Press\, voor het eerst uitgezonden in 1970 met John Cleese in de hoofdrol. \nDe sketch begint in een boekwinkel in Londen\, waar twee klanten staan. John Cleese komt binnen\, gekleed in zwart City-kostuum met bolhoed. Hij koopt The Times\, en maakt bij het weggaan een enigszins militaire draai\, gevolgd door grote\, slungelige passen. De camera volgt hem op straat\, en Cleese draait\, zwaait en loopt gehurkt. Hij gaat een gebouw binnen\, en de camera toont het bordje op het ijzeren hek: “The Ministry of Silly Walks”. In de gang zien we nog drie mensen met een raar loopje passeren. Binnen presenteert ene Mr. Putey (Michael Palin) zijn loopje in ontwikkeling (walk in progress)\, maar het blijkt eigenlijk niet zo erg raar te zijn. De ambtenaar vertelt Putey dat hij niet gelooft dat het ministerie hem kan helpen omdat zijn loop niet raar genoeg is\, en het budget is klein (“Maar met subsidie kan ik hem nog veel raarder maken!”\, zegt Putey nog). De regering\, zo legt hij uit\, behoort evenveel uit te geven aan Defensie\, Sociale zekerheid\, Gezondheidszorg\, Huisvesting\, Onderwijs\, en Rare loopjes ( Defence\, Social Security\, Health\, Housing\, Education\, and Silly Walks)\, maar heeft onlangs nog minder uitgegeven aan rare loopjes dan aan defensie. De ambtenaar legt later uit dat Mr. Putey misschien aan het Anglo-Franse rare loopje\, Le Marche Futile (een overduidelijke parodie op de ontwikkeling van de Concorde)\, kan werken. DESCRIPTION:De Nationale Voorleesdagen worden jaarlijks gehouden door de CPNB georganiseerd op initiatief van Stichting Lezen\, om het voorlezen te stimuleren aan jonge kinderen van 0 tot 6 jaar\, die zelf nog niet kunnen lezen of net het lezen hebben geleerd. \nIeder jaar wordt naast het Prentenboek van het Jaar ook de Prentenboeken Top Tien gekozen. De uitverkoren prentenboeken staan centraal in de activiteiten die tijdens De Nationale Voorleesdagen worden georganiseerd. Het doel van de campagne is om bij het publiek het belang van voorlezen onder de aandacht te brengen: voorlezen ontwikkelt gevoel voor taal\, liefde voor boeken en een sterkere band tussen volwassene en kind. Vandaar dat vanaf 2019 de campagne de boodschap uitdraagt voorlezen maakt je leuker! De campagne moet ervoor zorgen dat (groot)ouders en verzorgers het voorlezen tot een dagelijks ritueel maken. Jaarlijks worden bekende Nederlanders uitgenodigd om voor te lezen tijdens Het Nationale Voorleesontbijt om te laten zien dat ook zij voorlezen belangrijk vinden. The festival consists of competitive sections for American and international dramatic and documentary films\, both feature films and short films\, and a group of out-of-competition sections\, including NEXT\, New Frontier\, Spotlight\, Midnight\, Sundance Kids\, From the Collection\, Premieres\, and Documentary Premieres. The festival was established in Salt Lake City\, Utah\, in 1978 as the Utah/US Film Festival. The festival moved to nearby Park City\, Utah\, in 1981 and was renamed the US Film and Video Festival. It was renamed the Sundance Film Festival in 1991. From its inception\, and through 2026\, the festival has taken place every January in Utah. DESCRIPTION:Sinds 1995 wordt Puzzeldag op 29 januari gevierd\, deze dag komt uit de koker van diverse gamebedrijven uit de Verenigde Staten. \nOp International Puzzle Day worden puzzels van alle vormen en grootte in de spotlights gezet. Wat wordt nu precies bedoeld met een puzzel? Een puzzel is een probleem of enigma dat de vindingrijkheid van de oplosser test. In een eenvoudige puzzel is het de bedoeling om stukken op een logische manier samen te stellen om tot de gewenste oplossing te komen. Puzzels kunnen ook letters\, cijfers\, vormen en raadsels bevatten. De eerste legpuzzel ontstond rond 1760\, toen John Spilsbury\, een Britse graveur en kaartenmaker\, een kaart op een vel hout legde die hij vervolgens rond elk afzonderlijk land verzaagde. Spilsbury gebruikte het product om aardrijkskunde te onderwijzen. SUMMARY:International Film Festival Rotterdam 2026
DESCRIPTION:Het International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is het grootste filmfestival van Nederland\, het wordt sinds 1972 jaarlijks in Rotterdam gehouden. \nSinds 2017 worden films getoond in Pathé Schouwburgplein\, Kino\, Cinerama\, LantarenVenster\, het Oude Luxor\, de Schouwburg\, De Doelen en Worm. Elk jaar gaat eind januari in Rotterdam het gros van de films in première die gedurende de rest van het jaar in Nederland te zien zullen zijn. Ook zijn er vele korte en lange films uit alle delen van de wereld te zien die buiten het festival niet meer in Nederland vertoond worden. Centraal staan de kleinere\, onafhankelijke en artistieke films van vaak weinig bekende regisseurs\, alhoewel de ‘betere’ Hollywoodfilm niet geschuwd wordt. Er zijn programmaonderdelen rond producties die zijn gefinancierd door het Hubert Bals Fonds\, retrospectieven van de ‘Filmmakers in Focus’\, forumdiscussies\, tentoonstellingen van videokunst\, enzovoort. Daarnaast is er tijdens het festival de CineMart waar filmmakers in contact kunnen komen met financiers. Tot slot worden jaarlijks drie HIVOS Tiger Awards uitgereikt. Naast een aantal vaste medewerkers wordt het IFFR elk jaar ondersteund door een kleine duizend vrijwilligers\, die in ruil gratis films mogen bezoeken en enkele privileges krijgen. \nLinks:\nIFFR
